I find running volumes through Cleanup SMB Mess (Applescript Droplet, available on Versiontrakcer) gets rid of all the .trashes crap, as well as .DS_Store files...
Mine's unlit, got it over a year ago. Still great fun, and so versatile - not just with the games and emulators, but makers like Gigas, lazy reader for PD novels, mp3s and video, and even useful stuff like iMappy.
I think Ghostzilla can be set to not load images or only load them when you mouseover.
