    RC helicopters

Re: Pandora modding! Just do what I do - buy several, so when one goes flat there's always another one fully charged

    RC helicopters

Re: Pandora modding! Depends on what is wrong with them. Not crashing them into walls (or learning to cut the power just before you do) helps prevent you from cracking the tail rotor. Hairs and other crap get wrapped around the motor shafts; so you clean them off and lubricate them. And really...

    Binary Translation Using Peephole Superoptimizers

Dissimilar architectures will incur penalties (e.g. development time, code size, memory usage or execution time) which may make a particular translation infeasible, but there's nothing specifically preventing it. (yay Turing!) In fact the author gives special consideration to some of these...

    Pandora modding!

Nifty. There is a lot of information online about the various helicopter protocols (especially if you are targetting Picoo-Z's) so you probably don't have to hack much, unless you've got a random cheap clone :)

A Bluetooth GPS receiver that would be a great match

I've got SirfStar II and MTK receivers and I concur. Although you can't really fault the older chipsets; they aren't bad, it's just that the current ones are spectacular. (indoor reception? considering the signal strength that's insane!) The OP's device certainly wins on price; I'm...

    Binary Translation Using Peephole Superoptimizers

You're right, of course - the rule generation is the top level of a very large amount of preparatory work (and I would hardly fault your analysis of the deeper issues - your bona-fides are better than mine :) ) The main advantage of doing it this way seems to be if you specifically want to...

    Binary Translation Using Peephole Superoptimizers

Automatically generating binary translation rules between instruction sets? Holy crap that's awesome!

    Battery Charger

Most of those batteries are either completely internal or have a hard casing (either plastic or metal or both). And the terminals of the removable batteries usually have plastic ribs between them, which helps prevent accidental shorts. I didn't think the Pandora battery was quite that well...

    Battery Charger

Li-Ion/LiPo (from what I'm reading, the Pandora battery must be LiPo) lose capacity as they age, but they lose it faster if they're hot or if they're fully charged. Storing them at 40% charge and below room temperature gives them the longest lifespan. Shipping the cells shouldn't be a problem...

    Battery Charger

Doesn't matter - Li-Ion electrolyte freezes at about -40C, far colder than your household freezer will get.

    Battery Charger

You're confusing chemistries - AA lithium cells are lithium iron disulphide, not rechargeable, and nowhere near as dangerous as Li-Ion. You don't see Li-Ion in the consumer market for two reasons - the safety aspects, and the fact that the cell is 3.7v and therefore incompatible with AA's ~1.5v.

    Tv-out Questions

You just *know* somebody is going to come along sooner or later complaining about how they read here that connecting to two TVs was possible but it didn't work for him and why is his Pandora broken and damn craigix for lying and etc etc etc... Best to bury the idea at the source :)

    I''ve Just Got A Wiz

A decent suspend will also shut down as much of the other hardware as possible, not just the processor. Depending on how well that's been designed can have a massive impact on battery drain whilst suspended. Of course, it's much easier to concentrate on suspending the rest of the hardware when...

    Noticed Something On Blog

That's the breakout board, with serial, audio and video in/out. There's no VGA/digital/component out, as has been explained at length on these boards in the past.

    Battery Charger

If you get spare batteries you're going to have to be very careful with them, as they don't appear to have solid cases like most Li-Ion packs do (although I do hope I'm mistaken...) That means keeping them where they won't get sat on, crushed, punctured etc - don't just drop one into your bag...

    Battery Charger

Of course - it's just like any laptop/netbook in that regard. They'd have a hard time getting a device which exploded overnight through testing :)

Should We Move? - Forum Transfer Discussion

What's the alternative? Let it splinter, or let the whole thing die at some point in the future? Trying to get everyone to move (which includes all the whiners, sounds damn impartial to me) is the best of a set of really bad options. Although if it does split into a couple of different boards...

Should We Move? - Forum Transfer Discussion

They also have a vested interest in the Wiz and the older GPH consoles. Did you miss that or are you being deliberately inaccurate? In any case, I fail to see how being stuck on a bugged board with a lazy/incompetent/disinterested administrator is "about the community".

    Battery Charger

NO. Never, *ever* try this with a Li-Ion battery, you will get an large explosion and fire. Only use chargers explicitly designed to charge Li-Ion batteries, as they can deal with the complicated charging method required. At the very least, 5v is way above the Li-Ion maximum charging voltage -...
