The biggest computer/gaming mistake you have ever made.

Bought a WinCE PDA for 600$, the hardware worked fine but WinCE is a totally crippled piece of crap with overly expensive crippled software that made the whole thing pretty much useless. I tried installing Linux on it but the kernel and apps never got to a point where it was stable enough to...

    SD Cards

that's only if you don't disable this stupid OS "feature" on the system drive (and some OSes don't let you set it per drive so you gotta turn it off for all drives). its better for the drives to stay on all the time than power cycle every 5 mins, much less wear and uses less power since...

    SD Cards

this is false: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2.5-hard-drive-charts-2008/Idle-Power-Consumption,681.html best: 0.3W / 5Volts = 60mA idle most: 0.8W / 5Volts = 160mA idle once the drive is spun up, there isn't much current draw. much less than an internet 3G USB key. I drove 3...

    Open Pandora Comparison Chart

it is a very very nice graphic design, great work on that aspect. the chart content itself however is zealot fanboy BS. the omission of any bullet points of features present on the other consoles and not on the pandora says "the Pandora: a console for those insecure zealots who wants to wank...

My friends said that the Pandora display SUCKS

the OS runs the display in 16bits and the GPU can't even keep up running in 16bits at this resolution. a 15 or 18bits LCD would have been fine. oh well, at least we didn't have any issues that could be related to the Pandora display having so many data lines.

Making an image of an SD Card - Is this possible?

I'm gonna have to see some external information sources backing what you're saying because those would be the symptoms of a very broken FTL firmware. with any semi-decent firmware, overwriting the whole media should unfragment a good portion of the FTL remapping, of course this would count as...

My friends said that the Pandora display SUCKS

first, no one's preventing you to change your background. second, PEBKAC: I you can't read your terminal don't use a transparent terminal window then. we're talking about the default bg, the first thing people see when the machine is finally all booted up and the reaction general people have...

My friends said that the Pandora display SUCKS

HAHAHAHA nice work PowerGod, I think you got an excellent point there. the background would need some sharp defined logo, subtext or something, anything. close to the center so people can see the LCD's resolution right away. otherwise you can't tell its not 256x192 :P

Making an image of an SD Card - Is this possible?

[ citation needed ] because its the first time I hear of this, and I find this very hard to believe. if that was true SSDs would also freak out if you wrote a 4GB+ file as this would also be a long continuous write spanning multiple erase blocks. and don't count the very early completely...

    scale2x / scale3x shaders

I think a macro will obscure it more by making it look like a function: all function parameters get evaluated, a macro will NOT evaluate the unselected value. this will cause some confusion. but I agree its generally best to avoid using more than 1 in a line of code, its get messy pretty...

    scale2x / scale3x shaders

    out of curiosity I also tried to eliminate the: lowp vec3 tmp1 = p.x < 0.5 ? D : F; lowp vec3 tmp2 = p.y < 0.5 ? H : B; lines by swapping the texture coordinates in the pixel shaders: [...] lowp vec3 D = texture2D(s_texture0, v_texCoord[1] + s.xz).xyz; lowp vec3 F =...

thanks for all who participated in the voting, its great to see interest in the project. I'll keep working on my project, lot of things to do under the hood until a next release so it might be a little while, don't worry. I'm offering we skip my entry in the prize awards (give prizes down to...

    The Voting

I wonder if we'll be missing out on the weekend forum goers' votes since voting started on Monday (or very late Sunday night) and will end Friday night. not that I really expect much to change in the ranking, they've been surprisingly unchanging all week. but I expected way more Pandora...
