Ways To Make The Gp2x Better

Agreed. The joystick's ok, but considering how good everything else on the handheld is, it looks really bad by comparison. Considering the experiences of people here who've modded it, it really doesn't sound like it should be that hard to fix.

    Gp2x Power Supply & Batteries

I just walked into a Radio Shack and asked the guy for a handheld power supply. He asked me a few questions (voltage and so on), I showed him my GP2x ("is that a PSP?"), he tried a couple of plugs to see which would fit and ten minutes later I was out of there with a working, 2000mA...

    The Good And The Bad

Actually, it was around $90 for a 1GB card (I was originally planning on a 512M, but they were out of anything smaller than a gig and I was desperate ;)) so it wasn't the cheapest, but not a total rip-off either. There wa also a rebate, which if I ever get off my lazy butt I'll mail in.

    Gp2x Linux Source Release

One other thing to consider is ease of development. Right now, with SDL I can use all my developer tools I have in Windows to write my game, debug it under visual studio running on a 320x240 window and have gp2x-specific code (eg the key bindings) in #ifdef blocks, with a very high level of...

    The Good And The Bad

Yeah, happened to me too - presumably the card will arrive together with the TV-out cable I also ordered. Sucked big time, fixed it by going to Radio Shack and buying another one (not like I expected to only ever need one :))

    Anyone Not Have Any Problems?

I got myself a 1GB SanDisk this morning (the blue ones, not the 'high speed' black ones), and it works great. I used the transparent no-name USB 2.0 card reader I got for my gp32 from lik-sang. One thing - when I first plugged it into my XP SP2 box, I went to the disk manager and it said that...

GP2X Any News Devs On Hh??

Sweeeet :D Someone should contribute those to the U-Boot project, I was reading up on SD cards on other UBoot-based devices, and that is a major disappointment for most people.

    Source

My understanding is that this won't be much use, because the SD card uses a closed source driver, and you can't take a 2.4 binary driver and just plug it into a 2.6 kernel. In other words, the kernel will work but you won't have SD support so the gp2x will be a lot less useful. Is that still...

GP2X Any News Devs On Hh??

??? Now I'm really confused. I thought you needed Linux to access the SD card? (closed source drivers and all that...)

Can Someone Give Me Some Advice?

Just to make certain, you are going to the "Settings" screen and selecting "USB", right? does it say "USB Connected" on that screen?

GP2X Any News Devs On Hh??

I see, very nice :) So, what we need then is a program that uses that technique, that can be called very early from the Linux init script, which looks for some magic cookie in the inserted SD card (eg a file called autorun.gpe), loads it, and runs that in HH mode (hehe, this reminds me of the...

GP2X Any News Devs On Hh??

Interesting, I would have thought that the Linux security model wouldn't let usermode apps mess with system vectors (in the less-secure Windows model, you need to be a device driver to be able to do that). Or is this something that's allowed on embedded Linux because the environment is closed...

Just Arrived; Had A Few Surprises Too!

Interesting, mine (arrived today!) says "first edition" on it yet the serial number starts with "2005.11.18 - GP2XV102". Does this mean they're making a new batch every week?

GP2X Any News Devs On Hh??

I'm curious, if UBoot does not support SD cards, how are you loading the code? If you're doing something like exploiting a buffer overflow to cause Linux to crash in a predictable way with the CPU in supervisor mode, won't a kernel fix break HH mode? (of course, once we have the Linux souce...

GP2X Writing A Comic Book Reader...

20 Megs - holy crud Batman! I would suggest doing an SDL_FreeSurface of the original image just after you convert it for displaying, after it's on the screen you have no need for the original and it's just taking up (loads of) space.

Gpl & Source Code - Constructive Suggestions

Large companies have been pulling this for literally centuries, eg Gunboat Diplomacy two centuries ago. I'm not as worried about GPH (which, as you said, is probably fairly safe from anything other than public opinion) as I am about the small dealers that import the consoles for us. I don't...

Gpl & Source Code - Constructive Suggestions

I think he expected to get a lot of support for his idea of suing GPH, and instead stirred up a hornets' nest. I bet the popular support he found here for GPH took him aback, he's probably trying to figure out if there's an astroturf campaign going on ;) About that GPH thing I said before, I...

Gpl & Source Code - Constructive Suggestions

Considering it is 100% within their rights to do so, part of me wishes they would do just that, simply to get back at all the GPL whiners. Of course, I'll be willing to bet a large percentage of them will just give a satisfied smirk, say "my job here is done" and never even download it.

Gpl & Source Code - Constructive Suggestions

Sony may not have violated the GPL, but the rootkit thing (which includes OSS code in it) and this Slashdot post indicate that they are far from being honest in this regard. In case the link stops working for some reason, here's the summary: Sony's "Champions of Norrath" game has the "BSAFE"...
