I would personally recommend looking into obtaining the Open2X toolchain... it should produce much faster programs than the GPH SDK. :)

Just be warned... if you use the glibc/libstdc++ version on the gp2x, your program will not be compatible with the upcoming Open2X firmware without a recompile with the new glibc/libstdc++, unless you statically link with -static. There will probably be a compatibility mode for programs we...
I got my card a couple days ago, works perfectly with the GP2X. Just format it first, the format it ships with does not support long file names which screws up a lot of games on the GP2X.

FF7 is very very playable even at a very modest 240MHz/RAM tweaking on/Interlacing 1 (no sound, and the sound plays out of sync when it is on). There is some graphic corruption in the menus and the battle menus aren't visible (known bug, I'm sure?) but battles seem to vary between 1/2 and 3/4...
I just tried the latest version 040407b with ff7... the intro movie playback varied between 1/2 and full speed the whole way through, but the music lags a long way behind, it hadn't even gotten to the 'fanfare' bit when the train reached the reactor. The event sounds all played at the right...
MJPEG? I'm pretty sure the video processor can decode MJPEG... and wikipedia says MJPEG is indeed the PSX FMV format! Wheeeee...
Now we need to figure out how to use the dang video processor... <_<
