    Jeff Minter On Retrogaming

Arcade Defender is probably my favorite game of all time. I have tried some recreations of those games on various devices but I personally think they suffer greatly from not having the cabinet they were designed for -- especially games like Missile Command, Centiped, and Tempest, which were...

I agree completely! Amazing how the need to get somebody to feed in another quarter leads to simple addictive gameplay!

Craigix Discloses Information On New Gp2x?

I was serious. Lay down the law right at the start. Make it so nonconforming installations don't even show up in the menu.

Craigix Discloses Information On New Gp2x?

Certainly. "Thou shalt create one directory and one directory only on the root of the SD card, whose name matches your app. Thou shalt put one and only one executable file with the extension ".craigix" in this directory (though you may put other files there). Thus will the menu know what to...

    Jeff Minter On Retrogaming

I think the average game today is tons better than the average ancient game, not because of technology but because of budget. I remember buying those old psygnosis games for my Amiga back in the day; almost every single one of those games sucked horribly. Just my opinion of course, and there...

Craigix Discloses Information On New Gp2x?

Interesting. I still don't quite "get" it, but will reserve judgment until we see what it is. I guess "what it is" means what the marketing tagline is for it. Like if you go to gp2x.com, you see the tagline: "Powerful Open Source Gaming Device." This new thing may not even be a competitor...

Craigix Discloses Information On New Gp2x?

The only link I posted was to a rumored Nokia N900, which supposedly adds a slide-out keyboard to their UMPC design.

Craigix Discloses Information On New Gp2x?

So I guess if this device is actually a sort of PDA/UMPC/Subnotebook sort of thing, it needs to run X Window?

Craigix Discloses Information On New Gp2x?

Apparently this is not a GPH product, so won't directly affect whether GPH continues to make the gp2x; this will be a sort of competitor. Once it has a name maybe this forum will have a separate area for its discussion. GPH may need or want to find some new distributors ... I can't imagine...

Craigix Discloses Information On New Gp2x?

Then don't toss your gp2x in the garbage can! I find these latest ideas quite peculiar myself. An open game machine is cool, another linux umpc is boring (to me).

Craigix Discloses Information On New Gp2x?

You could be right. Though my fave the i.mx31 has refreshingly good documentation, and if comparing the engineering teams at freescale and magiceyes, i think i know which one i'd like to bet on :) Until they choose to dribble out this particular bit of info, we can have fun speculating!
