From what I can tell, they are using high quality part in the Pandora. The SoC (system on a chip) is made by Texas Instruments. This is where the CPU, RAM and most of the primary components that deal with computer functionality will be coming from. They've also stated repeatedly that they...
If they can get this thing rolling, they've got two huge advantages over the GP2X. When the GP2X came out, it was already underpowered on launch day. The PSP was already an established homebrew device and had a lot more horsepower. There wasn't really any reason for anyone to switch. Pandora...
It might be more like a week and a half to two weeks from the way it sounds. It also sounds like they need to do anything and everything they can to convince people to reorder through bank transfer, or possibly that xoom that everyone is talking about, sooner rather than later to get the ball...
I'd like to make a suggestion that might help. If it is possible, I believe that showing off a mostly built Pandora would be something that would generate a lot of excitement around here. Even if it sounds silly to put one of these things together without the keypad mat and possibly buttons...
I don't know if I'd say [i]everything[/] is done by bank transfers over there. It may be more common (and even very common in some areas) but since they haven't been able to secure the 40% yet, and at least half of their customers almost asuredly come from Europe, it kind of makes me think that...
Sony intends to make most of their money off of game sales. They can afford to sell the PSP at a lower profit margin. These open source consoles are made by small companies that have to make all of their money off of the hardware. That's why it appears to be more expensive. The same thing...
Look, I apologize if your intentions are honorable, senatus, but it just seems like this would be adding another layer of risk to the whole situation. If the OpenPandora team is willing to refund this second transaction fee for everyone than the main reason not to just send them the money...
Maybe Pandora wasn't right name for this project/product. Maybe you should've called it the Breeze or the Cakewalk or maybe the Super Easy to Build Handheld Computer. You guys seem to have a bad case of Murphy's Law.
+1 to mali. I'm glad someone is listening to us. No offense Gruso. You're not the only one who doesn't understand.
Great, now OpenPandora has turned into a freakin' telethon. :(
Some have suggested throwing in a free TV-Out cable; some a mini-keyboard; some Goole Checkout. I have the ultimate solution to trump them all and it's likely even less expensive on the Pandora team than the rest. Behold, the Pandora Craiginator Special Edition for all of those who order by...
Couldn't tell you really, in fact, I'm not sure if anyone really knows what the original tale was or meant. All of you guys are right. I just read quite a few interpretations of this story on the internet and most of them do state that hope is what was trapped in the box. I've heard the short...
That's the thing. They need to get the Pandora completed and out there before they can show it off. It probably wouldn't do a lot of good to build up even more publicity before they can even get the first batch out.
EDIT: I wouldn't be surprised to see it there next year, though.
