Pandora Desktop Environment Prototype Try 2 (screenshots And Videos)

I reckon that I should re-release a new version, shouldn't I? I'll take the icons and background that I've been given, and integrate many of the changes that helpful forum members have suggested. (Thank you very much, a.tom, and Coder_TimT!) I'll also see what I can do to use MDave's icons...

Pandora Desktop Environment Prototype Try 2 (screenshots And Videos)

    There are different components to Matchbox, all of which have different versions. Currently installed on my Ubuntu system: matchbox-window-manager - 1.2 matchbox-panel - 0.9.3 matchbox-panel-manager - 0.1 matchbox-desktop - 0.9.1 matchbox-themes-extra - 0.3 matchbox-keyboard - 0.1

Uhm. Guys. :) I know that you all are going crazy with the themes. But perhaps you should actually run Matchbox and play with it before coming up with things that don't fit in Matchbox? :) I've given you all the tools you need to play with Matchbox.

This seemed like a good time to jump in and point at: http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?s=&am...st&p=678294 These are good template files to start from. Unarchive them into your test account. Basically, rename the .xsession file to 'start-matchbox' and point xoo to execute it. That'll set...

Pangea - Alternative Gui To Gmenu

Sound be fairly easy without any intervention on your part if you use the matchbox window manager. Matchbox window manager can 'swallow' the matchbox system tray apps into the decoration/title bar. So no need to do anything other than making the SDL canvas slightly shorter to allow pixels for...

Pandora Desktop Environment Prototype Try 2 (screenshots And Videos)

Unfortunately, matchbox-desktop 2.0 doesn't look complete. And it doesn't seem to have the plugin support that we need. We did look at this briefly. The key to getting this to work well with the Pandora experience is the plugin support.

Pandora Desktop Environment Prototype Try 2 (screenshots And Videos)

Not bad. I might need to implement matchbox-desktop plugins for media files. That's a fairly good idea, though it may come after Pandora release. I like this. Give me pngs for the icons and background and I can get that running.

    Blog Update - Look! It's A Desktop!

Wrong. http://matchbox-project.org/screenshots.html How many times do I have to tell you all? That is the default theme. I am not a graphic artist. I am an engineer. If you are unhappy with the appearance of Matchbox, then use another theme or make your own. QUOTE but yeah, i dont know...

    Blog Update - Look! It's A Desktop!

Big difference between 'looking good', and 'functional'. This is an extremely high density 800x480 4.3" screen, and in such an environment, conventional window managers such as E17 do not work well.

    Concept

Stop bitching, cb88. Use the files that I've given you all, and make the theme you want. I've given you all the tools, all the apps you need to do so. Heck, if I see a theme that looks nice and functional enough, it may make it into the Pandora default theme. So, guys, fire up your text...

Pandora Desktop Environment Prototype Try 2 (screenshots And Videos)

Hey, guys, we're kind of straying off topic here. Yes, PandoraOS is going to be multitasking. And no, it will not be single-tasking, as it is based upon Linux and Angstrom. ;) Trying to turn it into a 'singletasking' OS is going to be futile. Linux has a quite good task scheduler. I am not...

Pandora Desktop Environment Prototype Try 2 (screenshots And Videos)

There's the window manager 'x' in the upper left corner. It kills processes pretty dead. :) Will that do for a 'quit' button? ;) [Edit: Further Clarification] The 'x' button is basically a window manager command. It tells the window manager to destroy the window. When the application no...
