    The tale of the cases

Multicore setups can also do things like throttle down or turn off most of the cores and then let just one run at max speed. I remember one of Intel's advertisements mentioning that for their turbo boost.

    The tale of the cases

So with things looking like a hardware issue, what's the plan? It sounds like to make 4GB work the cpu boards will need another round of prototypes with some added capacitors. So what about the ones that have already been produced? If the already produced 4GB boards are stable when limited to...

I'm out of ideas for news-titles

I plan on riding it out. What I want is an upgrade to my Pandora. Even if GPD comes out with something that seems close, this community has shown a real dedication to supporting a device for a long time. Heck, the Pandora is still fulfilling my dream from when I was 12 of having a portable...

    What's that game?

Hmm, thinking about it if you never saw the combat, you might want to expand your search into Action RPGs, or even just straight action or puzzle games. You may also want to consider tactics games. The list I put together was just games with RPG in the genre. So action, tactics, or maybe even...

    What's that game?

Not that I played them, but on Genesis there was games like Shining Force. Heck, there was a bunch of games for Sega Genesis, and apparently the Sega CD was out in 1992 (Though around October so...) which really expands the possible games it could be. If your memory is off by a few years and if...

    What's that game?

So I'm going to guess this is a top-down view kind of RPG? I'm guessing you're familiar enough with the big JRPGs of the era, so that rules out things like the Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy Series. Do you remember the combat style? Was it turn based? Was it side to side FF style, or facing an...

    Open... and close... and open...

I remember having to slightly bump the voltage on my PCs ram to keep it running full speed with the suggested timings. (This was high speed gaming ram) From catching up on the 4G thread, it looks like the team is closing in on the problem, and have had some success at 1.35V but with strange...

    Keep cool!

It's because they are really good at advertising. They create software to solve some real or perceived problem, and are good at getting the right people (Distro maintainers) on board. Despite it's flaws, PulseAudio did actually solve some problems and made some things much easier. Systemd...

    Keep cool!

I honestly haven't had an issue with Pulse Audio for years, and I regularly take advantage of its ability to allow me to adjust sound output by application, and switch input and output devices on the fly. Not saying people have not or still don't have issues using it. Take it with a grain of...

    It's all white!

The other issue with metal cases is that it can interfere with wireless pretty badly. If you look closely on many modern phones that have mostly aluminum, you'll usually spot an area that is just covered in plastic for the wireless antennas. I seem to remember that the Pandora's antenna is up...

Pictures, Videos and thoughts of a Pyra dev-prototype

I remember having wifi adapters that you had to disable hardware encryption handling to get them to work with Linux (at least until the drivers were updated) https://askubuntu.com/questions/405644/slow-wireless-with-rt2800pci is an example of the commands. so 'sudo modprobe -r <driver>; sudo...

    Playing with Play-Doh

Don't forget Central America ;) ---- I'm glad the prototypes are getting into the hands of some of the devs. That'll hopefully speed up fixing some of the underlying issues. There's quite a few things that will probably need to be tuned and tweaked as well, for instance I'm pretty curious...

Update regarding the cases (and some other things)

Here's my impractical desire for case colors: Some phone manufacturers have been playing around with the idea of covering the case of a phone in an E-Ink display so that you can have customizable patterns or even useful information displayed on the case of your phone...

Quite a bit for you to read!

Even with some small setbacks, the pyra looks like it's going to be a massive upgrade to the Pandora. And I'm pretty happy with my Pandora. Strange to hear about the cases having issues due to being rushed, I hope that gets fixed. I'm happy with the eMMC speeds being faster than 30 MBs for...

Beta Docker on pandora's default OS

Docker has a bad habit of not picking up ENV variables. -- edit (I should make sure I'm more careful when I read) -- You likely need to pass the options for the different mount point directly to the docker daemon when you start it. So in the above instructions './docker daemon -g...

Oh man the Zipit Z2 was a fun device to play with. I still have mine hanging out somewhere. I was not aware of the gechic monitors, I may have to buy one. How do you connect your pandora to it? Though a vga adapter or something?

Release Emu EX Plus Alpha ported to the Pandora

Thanks for the info! That helps out quite a bit. I'm also seeing the same menu freezing issue that lunarwhale described with version 1.43. I'll go to the recent games tab and pick a game, and the whole program will either crash or freeze. I don't see this issue with 1.53 though.

Release Emu EX Plus Alpha ported to the Pandora

An odd issue I've been having is that no matter if I pick 1.43 or 1.53 the emulator that launches says 1.5.29 at the top. Is that just a bug or should I see 1.43 and 1.53 respectively depending on which one I start up? I was having issues with games that use flickering transparency and auto...

    Pyra christmas update :)

I understand the desire for a single system, usually because setting up syncing and replication is a pain. But at what point are you better off with a raspberry pi, or a second pyra that you just transfer your sd cards, or set up something like fssync. If you go with software syncing, you...

Just preordered Pyra and Pandora questions

It's probably just the angles, but some of the solder around the usb port looks very close to some of the other board components.
