    Will there be usable GPIO?

Depends on what "high-speed" is. External high-speed interfaces on connectors in the back, you will have eSATA and USB3 OTG on hands, and that's about it. GPIO generally isn't that fast anyway. There's the USB2 logic analysers that can do what, 8 channels at 25 MSps? for 10 dollars from china...

With full steam into the new year!

Depends. On my desktop, systemd takes about three times as long to boot as compared to sysvinit. On a friends laptop running ubuntu, systemd is slower than upstart. But supposidely, it's quicker for some. I consider boot times a stupid argument for one or the other, computers today are so fast...

Expected runtime of Pyra and clock rate

10 hours? Probably. I'm expecting power management to be subpar on launch, so while runtime at light use will probably reach double-digits, standby time will probably not be that great.

    Pyra without decent web browser?

armhf is a "Tier 2" architecture from what I can tell. For whatever it's worth, nothing but x86/amd64 is listed as "tier 1" on that page.

    Release Pandora config tray icon

Well, I kinda trust you. Make a pull request and I'll have a look. If I'm not too mistaken, I did end up adding an option to disable plugins, right?

Potential for Linux-libre on the Pyra?

Wifi/BT requires a blob, could be worked around with a USB dongle. The mobile version has a module with on-board firmware. It is stored in flash inside the module and is generally not touched by the kernel. The hardware accelerated video encoding/decoding requires a firmware blob to be loaded...

News from the meeting at GC

Well, with laser-drilled microvias and via-in pad at those densities... It's a bit above the ordinary.

How will MIDI files sound on the Pyra?

When I said "if you want control over how it sounds", I intended it in the context of releases. As in, as soon as you are not the one setting up the midi environment, you no longer have a say in how it will sound. Just wanted to clear that up.

How will MIDI files sound on the Pyra?

It depends entirely on what midi software is installed and what patches are used. Here's an example: A midi-file as played using the mostly-terrible windows midi mapper: Here's that same midi file as played on some (can't remember which) decent sequencer with good patches...

pcb 3d printer and the future of homebrew systems like the pyra

Down at a student lab at my university, we have a PCB mill. It'll to .5mm pitch footprints, vias to some extent, and reasonably aligned two layer board, and it'll do drilling. If you're just making a simple board, you can have a turn-around time of less than an hour. It's pretty great.

which software is used for pyra development?

hns uses eagle (ugh.) and some other custom tool to cover for eagle's shortcomings for pcb design afaik

If a default choice is set, which desktop environment the Pyra OS should have ?

Well. For a decently functioning desktop system. GTK2/GTK3/Motif/Tk/Qt are pretty much required. So it won't really matter which DE to go for regarding those libs, they'll all have to come along anyway...

    GPD Pocket

Well, as long as the offtopic train is still going... I used an EEEpc 901 as my main developement machine for several years. And it was very slow. I used debian stable on it, and apart from crap performance it had one thing going for it. One thing I can't say for any other computer I've ever...

    pandora lcd dark vertical lines

Are they always in the same place when they appear? Looks like a damaged LCD module. A damaged cable will inherently create horizontal artifacts.

    Pyra christmas update :)

1.5 GHz is the fastest on spec. Some units may clock higher, especially if extra cooling is provided, as the rated clock frequency is over a wide range of operating conditions.

Things to do when traveling in Japan

Well... I'll be going in August. During the three weeks I'll be there, I'm spending less than a week of it in Tokyo and Kyoto. It's a big place, do some research on what you like and you'll find sidetrips for a year in the process :p

2017 - The year of the Pyra!

Since I really could use mine when I go abroad for a few weeks august this year, I'd say no sooner than september 2017.

Open Source GPU Drivers for Qualcomm Adrenos

The CPU board has a bit of a "soft" lock-in to the OMAP platform. The interfaces exposed on the headers are unusual in quantity as compared to other platforms (for example, the amount of SDIO interfaces). But it's all things that could be worked around if there's enough space on the board.

    Weekly Pyra Preorder Stats

My server was down for over 24 hours starting Thursday morning at 8am. That would explain the missing records in the lists.
