    USB-C

I'd be very surprised if a future SoC does not have a client port. All the host ports can be solved with a hub if need be. The second (2.0) micro USB port is a USB-UART, not a USB port from the SoC.

The long road to a final unit

A friend of mine bought a new IPS panel about half a year ago. He hadn't noticed any ghosting at all. Until we started making a simple 2D game. Then, he was almost shocked at the amount of ghosting he saw :p

The long road to a final unit

IPS panels tend to have terrible ghosting (although usually only visible in 2D games), and the panel ED picked out has no observable ghosting. The display ED has chosen is of BOEs own technology, and is probably a better balance between viewing angle and response time.

A few Colors and Packages (with a poll!)

How about mixing in a UV flourescent pigment, creating isolated glowing spots when exposed to UV light? :B

    Download Pyra Debian OS (WIP)

I don't think etnaviv is the right kernel module for the 2D accelerator. This is how far I got last time I tried: https://pyra-handheld.com/boards/threads/how-to-get-rotation-working.75994/page-4#post-1343852

    General questions thread

Even as a newbie, I tended to find out the answer myself by the time anyone replied. Usually I spent hours, or sometimes days, to try figure something out. Then I gave up and asked somewhere. While waiting for an answer, I got some more ideas or tried to figure it out some more. Very rarely did...

GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

(If ST-Ericsson fell out on lack of modem integration, then that's hilarious, since wireless comm is pretty much all that's keeping Ericsson alive nowadays)

    1) Should not be a problem. The idea has been tossed around as a serious possibility. But any work on that is unlikely to happen before the pyra ships.

    General questions thread

    1) It already has the symbols for a german keyboard (ä, ö, ü, ß), so it's only å that's missing ;) (4 in case you are unaware, the "special" package format used on the pandora, and the simlar one I develop for the pyra will even allow you to download a file, put it on an SD card on any...

    General questions thread

    1) I'm not personally bothered by it. Apart from the cosmetic bit that å will have a different label, pretty much all other symbols you'd want are there. Except maybe for ¤, but you could <compose> that if you're really desperate. 3) They share the same eMMC bus. There is effort made on...

    General questions thread

    1) keyboard mat is fixed for the forseeable future. That doesn't prevent you from remapping ü to å though. 2) Steam kinda sorta runs. This was before the GL driver was working. There is a decent chance we'll have OpenGL 1.x acceleration in 32-bit x86 emulation working at or shortly after...

    Appimage instead of pnd?

The DBP system is so custom tailored to the use-case of a handheld with lots of removable storage, that I don't think it'll fit much else. If I were to do a system for distributing binaries to desktops, I'd change a whole number of things in the design.

PGS Windows 10 gaming handheld - GPD WIN competitor

Yeah, that just looks like a bunch of dreamers who have no idea of what they are doing :p

    News from all fronts

It's 533 MHz DDR-3 iirc, 32-bit wide * 2 channels * 2 (DDR -> data is latched twice per clock cycle) * 533 MHz ≈ 7.94 GiB/s maximum theoretical peak bandwidth. The maximum performance of anything in computing, is the performance the mfg assures you it will never reach, so it'll be lower in reality.

Afaik, you can't switch it off. Not without an additional bypass in external hardware. And it adds an additional €5-€10 to the BOM.

    Phone Calls and Upgrades?

Making phone calls currently works from a shellscript. The amount of polish done on that software will depend a lot on what whoever gets prototypes does with it, if anything at all.

Beta Gpnd - A Simple Gui-Tool For Creating Pnds

I had successfully forgotten that I ever made this thing, and you just had to remind me about it? :p If it works, it works. But I wouldn't be surprised if it does a whole bunch of things that the PND system will throw a wobbly over, not to mention it's severly outdated. I'm kinda busy with...

A few Colors and Packages (with a poll!)

The pandora charges slow enough on 5v/2A, and the pyra will be much, much worse regarding power consumption, and it got a bigger battery. A phone charger (which are usually in the neighbourhood of 5v/1.3A) might not even be enough to power the thing at full load, meaning you could even drain the...
