Quite a bit for you to read!

yeah this emmc thing could get out of proportion, Linux is very efficient, once loaded, usually the only disk access other than swap (which you can live without!) will be loading applications and then applications loading/saving data, as saving is probably best not done on emmc this leaves...

    4GB and 1,5GHz? Confirmed.

great news re: memory, the one thing I've found very limiting with the PI for example (and others for that matter) is the memory, especially as this machine will easily cope with the likes of xfce (worked like a charm on pandora) this will make end to end 3d printing design practical on the hoof!

as far as boards are concerned, I like to use an ancient form of math, it works like this 1....2.....many..... ( many being too much for me and time to let others get involved ;) )

... gosh yeah! aside from the upgrade advantage - that could make for one expensive main board just to have an array of key pads on one side!

@Grench yeah, think you nailed it there, basically as you say its a no gamble, gamble, - frankly speed isn't everything I'd be quite happy with "only" 1.2ghz (but fairly confident most units will get to 1.5ghz!)

what bewilders me is "pro" multinationals often take longer than 2 years to develop something like this with stupid amounts of cash and a large team, here is one man, with help from the community for software, and just one electronics designer and he's managed to pull together half a dozen or...

News from the meeting at GC

that sort of thing is good in theory, when you have large volumes and decent profit margins, but for the lone trader, with smaller margins (because you cant buy in ship loads) it just isn't worth it - still we can only hope that with extra pyra sales and maybe an ad campaign or two there will be...

Is it true that one day when coming home, your wife screamed and rang the police, it was only after you were arrested for burglary that your wife belatedly remembered that the strange man she never sees, was in fact her husband! that is one punishing schedule...

    Back from the Dead!

tehe tehe I'm guessing ED doesn't know what bugger means in blighty ! anyhow childishness aside, things like the sd->jtag adaptor is amazing, can you just imagine the Sonys or nindies of this world making like so easy for developers... well not while they think the stuff you bought is still...

    Pyra christmas update :)

Given that you have spent lots (all?) of your free time, probably skint yourself too, then its only fair you should get something back! All the best, and Merry Xmas!

    Rock solid battery and MicroUSB-Port

well that's good news if worst comes to worst (although I'm not convinced there won't be a better solution) if you know you're going to use the machine on mains for a long while you can manually wait for the charge to reach 80% (or whatever charge you want) then leave the battery out....

    Rock solid battery and MicroUSB-Port

@Bokkertoff that would certainly be useful If we're lucky there might be several ways to achieve this - but being able to use the unit on mains only power leaving the battery alone @ 80% would be great Did anyone mention (I can't remember) can the Pyra be run on mains without battery?

    Comprehensive Status update!

really? when did this start : O ) seriously though - what an immense achievement, what a staggering piece of kit, who on earth has heard of a replaceable CPU in something the size of a phone! and the almost bewildering array of output and input options, not to mention storage... wow... and in...

What will a Pyra be able to do that the OpenPandora can't do now?

having the host directly controlling a circuit like SDR isn't quite what I was meaning, anyhow I assume you know about devices like this https://www.adafruit.com/product/1497 (no idea if there is Arm kernel support?) I'd encourage you to play with an iCEstick as they are cheap and its not like...

What will a Pyra be able to do that the OpenPandora can't do now?

don't forget that with SoC devices (system on a chip) normally peripheral devices like sound controllers are actually on the die with the cpu (they are literally (almost) complete *systems* on a (single) chip), while having dozens of different hardware options might sound attractive, "just"...

What will a Pyra be able to do that the OpenPandora can't do now?

terrible idea, honestly... the great thing about having USB is it allows you to electrically isolate devices from delicate valuable electronics like the Pyra, if you do want to experiment with interfacing electronics, why not think about using a iCEstick fpga this can act as both USB interface...
