    Free Memory Vs. PND's installed

In sysinfo, the used memory is colored red and the available memory is colored green. Cache/buffers are colored dark green, unused memory is bright green. In principle, all cache/buffer memory is available, it's just the kernel keeping things in memory for efficiency, e.g. in case you want to...

Camera Questions - For the people that want a camera.

I voted for "volume wheel", "no", and "not sure". That is, I'm not sure which to pick: "no" or "volume wheel". If forced to pick one option, I would pick "no". Does that make sense?

No prototypes for GamesCom, but a Wifi Chip and a Pyra in the dark!

I would personally buy a Pyra with 3/4G, so this has nothing to do with me trying to save money. There are at least two models of the Pyra: a cheaper one without 3/4G module, and a more expensive one with 3/4G. That means we'll have to "factor in the costs of splitting the board production...

No prototypes for GamesCom, but a Wifi Chip and a Pyra in the dark!

Well if ED does not mind the added complexity of having 3 different models (2.4GHz wifi / 5GHz wifi / 5GHz wifi + cellular), then of course that would be the best option. But what you are proposing is to force EVERYONE to pay the extra cost for 5GHz wifi, even if they don't need it. I think...

No prototypes for GamesCom, but a Wifi Chip and a Pyra in the dark!

It's only a weak correlation. If you live in a very rural / sparsely populated area, chances are that you'll have no (fast) 3/4G reception in your area. If you live in a sparsely populated area, chances are that the 2.4GHz bands is not congested, and that you'll want to have the extra distance...

No prototypes for GamesCom, but a Wifi Chip and a Pyra in the dark!

I still think that the compromise makes sense: have 5GHz only in units that also have 3/4G. My previous arguments still holds: there's a correlation between needing 5GHz and needing 3/4G (both only tend to be useful if you live in a densely populated area), there is no additional logistic /...

Conclusion / synthesis of the keyboard poll results

/ and ? on the left makes sense if , . ; : ' " are on the left, since that means all commonly used punctuation symbols (for natural language at least) are in one cluster, easy to input even with the keyboard Fn only. If you only want to use keyboard Shift (and not the shoulder Shift), then it's...

    [Poll] Case Colour Clarification

In a cinema the projection screen is white (or light gray), but the area around that, and the other walls, are typically black or some very dark color. For the Pyra case, I don't want any bright color (including shades of white) for the same reason. We shouldn't discuss colors in terms of RGB...

Some pictures from the GamesCom 2015

Thanks for the pictures, ED! Are there any other reasons to add coating / painting / finishing to the case, besides looks? If not, then yes, please no coating / painting / finishing. The case surface of a handheld doesn't need to be shiny, smooth and slippery. If it's colored all the way...

What is better, big SD cards or several small ones?

Just reformat them. On the Pandora (or any GNU/Linux system) you can use GParted if you like a nice user-friendly tool.

What is better, big SD cards or several small ones?

The only problem with big cards is that they usually come preformatted as exFAT, which is a crappy filesystem. Just format it to a decent filesystem (ext2/3/4, or if you don't care about permissions and symlinks and all that, ntfs or fat32), and everything works just fine.

    Is Pyra expensive outdated hardware?

Are you sure you want problems that no one has solved before as homework? Really? When you learned to read, did you also insist on starting with an alphabet and a language nobody has read before?

    Is Pyra expensive outdated hardware?

Good teaching is not about knowledge (all knowledge is just a Google search away), nor is it about shallow skills. It's like that saying, "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime". Good teaching is not about collecting fishes -- i.e...

How to calculate a price for the Pyra

Of course. You're free to not trust anyone (except I guess the shop) by buying it individually and paying full shipping fees. This would be more for people who already know one another in some way and trust one another to some extent. If they don't already know one another, perhaps they could...

How to calculate a price for the Pyra

They won't earn money, they won't officially be anything, they won't be resellers and any warranty or other support would not go through them. The payment would go directly to the real seller, this is all just a "I'm your neighbor so I'll accept the delivery for you" thing. Of course they're...

How to calculate a price for the Pyra

I think it's a good thing to have resellers (especially in North America and Japan, i.e. Link and Ekianjo) if only to make shipping more efficient. I don't know about ThinkGeek but perhaps having some higher-profile resellers is not a bad thing, though it would be mostly to reach new people (at...

What is better, big SD cards or several small ones?

I bought these ones recently: http://www.amazon.de/128GB-Secure-Digital-Speicherkarte-HighSpeed/dp/B00JAXVUSO/ref=sr_1_2?s=ce-accessories&ie=UTF8&qid=1438786292&sr=1-2 128GB for 37.92 EUR, claims 40MB/s write, 80MB/s read...

Would a kit Pyra be cheaper ?

Right, I forgot about testing. The easiest way to check that the PCB, nubs, display cable, screen etc actually work is by assembling the unit, booting the thing from a test SD card, and run some semi-automated tests. So the hypothetical "Pyra-kit" would have to be untested, and provided the...

Would a kit Pyra be cheaper ?

It probably depends on whether packaging the components for a kit would be cheaper than assembling the unit and packaging that. I know nothing about this topic, but my gut feeling is that at these quantities, everything is basically manually handled, and individually packaging the bare...
