    ... we're still alive!

An analog volume wheel with software control is the best of both worlds, if you ask me. Obviously the low-level software has to be reliable, but I don't see why that would be harder to do than e.g. making the keyboard or nubs reliably do what they're supposed to do. Software control means you...

    ... we're still alive!

Most applications would also go on the eMMC, if you just apt-get install stuff.

    ... we're still alive!

I'm not sure about that. The eMMC version says something about the interface speed, which is the theoretical max speed, but that doesn't mean that all read/write operations are actually at that speed. Maybe you will get that speed for a large sequential read, but most likely not for small random...

First newspost coming FROM the Pyra!

So if I understand correctly, the idle powersaving should already be working. But ED did get quite some heat when doing nothing, so that suggests that it's not going idle enough to consume only power on the screen. Maybe the constant interrupts from those peripherals (or maybe even from X...

Here's a video about injection molding that I think is somewhat interesting:

    Keyboard layouts get political

Our humble Pyra keyboard layout is indeed a pretty good replacement for AZERTY. I would love it if the French got rid of AZERTY, because here in Belgium, we also have AZERTY and if the French change, I suppose we will change as well.

When does the initial contents of the eMMC get flashed? Before or after assembly? If the eMMC is flashed by booting from a specially prepared SD card (which does some automatic or semi-automatic hardware testing, I suppose, and then installs the OS), then it could be an option to prepare...

I suppose we could put a color code in /etc/pyra/case_color or something like that, which could give a hint to software that cares about it (but you can modify it if you want).

Exciting to see how the Pyra is being crafted into existence in what looks like it could be the mythical forges of Hephaestus! Durable, matte, and more than one color option. Excellent! (I would suggest to have the colors black and dark red)

Ian Murdock - founder Debian died (suicide)

The mystery still hasn't been solved.

    A final Pyra Newspost!

I'm really looking forward to the Pyra! It's very exciting there's now a (tentative, best-case, but still) date for the mass production run!

Ian Murdock - founder Debian died (suicide)

There is something very fishy about the way the San Francisco police reacted. For the first four days they refused to comment. The cause of death is still a mystery even at this point. And on day five, they have the following explanation: - Ian Murdock was acting like a lunatic, yelling and...

Not everything is as fast as planned

Sounds to me like command mode is more power-friendly, and more suitable for anything except 60fps games. When doing something like web browsing or document editing, probably not much more more than one or two frames per second are needed on average. If I understand correctly, the way X11 works...

    Pyra Developers.

I'm currently a bit occupied with FLIF, but I plan to make stuff for the Pyra. Probably not exclusively for Pyra, but at least tweaked for Pyra. E.g. I might want to re-implement Pandora System Info to become a more general System Info thing, the same with Pandora Image Viewer and maybe some of...

    Free Lossless Image Format (FLIF)

Yes, FLIF would not be suitable at all as an in-memory texture format. It might be suitable as an on-disk texture format though.

    Free Lossless Image Format (FLIF)

FLIF metadata (in the beginning of the stream) could contain a list of prefix sizes for different resolution/quality settings. Maybe the img tag needs an optional "priority" attribute to help browsers choose the order in which images are downloaded/refined.

    Free Lossless Image Format (FLIF)

The client knows the total file size I suppose. Just downloading a fixed percentage of that could be good enough.
