    Psychology of Pricing

Considered putting this in the how to calculate a price for Pyra thread but this meant to be a little more general yet still hopefully useful when it comes to pricing the Pyra. Here are a few personal thoughts / expectations when it comes to pricing : When buying something the price I'm really...

    Bugs and Calculations

Thanks for the update ED, now I understand why we're not seeing benchmarks for things like performance of SD card vs eMMC etc. Talking of 'software quirks' what is the score with 3D drivers for Pyra? I know there were some problems but lost track if there was a definite plan for a solution /...

Snowden Ridicules David Cameron For Defending 'Private' Matter of Panama Papers Leak

Agreed, it would have been better put this way : When Mr Carr correctly realised that everyone else would think that this is what is known in the trade as a 'cunt's trick' he quickly apologised and agreed to pay his fair share of tax, based on his ability to pay. What galled me at the time is...

PGS Windows 10 gaming handheld - GPD WIN competitor

Mind boggling isn't it? However if this was released in a years time I could just about maybe imagine that it was possible at that price based on the way the amount of bang you get for your buck increases over the years. Struggling to believe it though all the same. To be fair if told in 2014...

Snowden Ridicules David Cameron For Defending 'Private' Matter of Panama Papers Leak

Tax justice is an incredibly difficult philosophical issue requiring genuine nuanced thought rather than black & white logic. For instance by 'required' do you mean required by law or by fairness (broadly speaking ability to pay)? Do you think it's fair for everyone to pay the same tax (actual...

PGS Windows 10 gaming handheld - GPD WIN competitor

Here is what GPD say about it in their FAQ : ________ Q : Does the operating system need to pay to activate? A:No,Cause for the device that below 10.1 inches can be free to use the latest Windows and Office.GDP Win use the genuine Windows 10 system,It will be automatically activated after...

Snowden Ridicules David Cameron For Defending 'Private' Matter of Panama Papers Leak

David Cameron has publicly castigated other people, such as comedian Jimmy Carr, for benefiting from legal yet morally dubious tax avoidance measures. It turns out he has benefited financially from such things himself. Do you see the problem now?

Ram & eMMC costs / power drain

Does that also apply to the 4G version? If not, why not? Surely the required sales number is based on the markup that people are willing to pay for, for instance to use an absurd example : the retail price for a Premium Pyra was set at €1000 and there were 400 pre orders for the premium version...

    ... we're still alive!

There is a big difference between need & want. Here's why I would want 32GB : I think there would be tangible benefits in terms of speed when using eMMC to run apps or an alternate OS when compared to SD/USB. This is based on my experience of using a Windows tablet, the only device I own with...

Ram & eMMC costs / power drain

If the demand for a premium version at €575 was sufficient to 'subsidise' the cost of a base unit. My suspicion is that a lot of computing products are sold this way. I can see many reasons why this might, or might not, work for Pyra. I'm not saying 'this is what you should do' what I'm saying...

Ram & eMMC costs / power drain

How about if the Premium version retailed for €550? Or if the Premium version retailed for €575 and the base version for €475? Why €475? This would bring the US$ cost to under $550 and UK£ cost to under £400. I'm no marketing expert but a lot of people who are seem to think that pricing below...

    ... we're still alive!

No it's not, that's 250% markup, there is a huge difference between markup and profit. That markup has to cover ALL costs, development, staff, advertising, premises, company cars etc. Many thanks for the clarification of the impact on retail costs, it feels really special to me to be able to be...

Ram & eMMC costs / power drain

IMHO adding the answer to a question asked in the original post seems reasonable, to each their own.... I'm quoting the costs given by ED when asked the question 'what do the parts cost?', I assume they are wholesale costs, it would be more useful to this discussion if ED had answered with a...

    ... we're still alive!

It's not due to lack of options it's because we don't have solid data about the impact of using an SD card / USB Drive as an alternative to eMMC. i.e. running an OS & its associated applications. From my limited experience there is an appreciable difference when using USB2.0 / Micro SD compared...

Ram & eMMC costs / power drain

    Had an update from ED in this thread about eMMC costs : 4GB : €3-€4 8GB : €3-€4 16GB : €6-€7 32GB : €10 64GB : €20 Updated OP with this info.

    ... we're still alive!

Good to see we're getting some answers to the questions in this thread, your responses are much appreciated. From a personal perspective 16GB sounds too small for my anticipated usage of the Pyra. (I was hoping to eventually use at least 8GB for a dedicated Android installation & have plenty of...

Ram & eMMC costs / power drain

Got an answer from ED relating to Ram costs, hope to hear soon about eMMC : Added a few supplementary questions to the OP : 5) What is the base size for Pyra Ram? i.e. 1 x 2GB or 2 x 1GB etc.? 6) Is it possible to disable ram to save battery ? 7) What is swap performance like when system...

Ram & eMMC costs / power drain

A quick look at my memory usage with Chrome and this seems normal, using over 1.5GB here with 10 open tabs. No idea if this would be different under Linux. What I see when I read 'premium model' is better specs in some areas but more expensive, pretty sure that is the widely accepted view. My...

Ram & eMMC costs / power drain

Please note that there has been no official announcement regarding Ram size for Pyra, or the possibility/feasibility of having a 'premium' model with 4GB of Ram. It might be best to mention that in case people reading the FAQ mistakenly believe this has come from an official source.
