Say, question: how does Pandian handle the Pandora's blob requirements? Does it have the wireless blob installed from the Debian non-free repository, or is it a separate add-on that has to be removed manually? And if it's the latter, what has to be done to remove all proprietary software which...
When people aren't insisting on hardware that works with libre software, and mainline Linux just ships with these proprietary blobs by default because Torvalds isn't willing to temporarily sacrifice some hardware compatibility to make a long-term change, it's an outcome that's to be expected...
Hm, I get errors trying to build those on my Pandora. Is there something special I need to do? I just followed the instructions for glship ("cmake ." and then "make GL", though I had permission problems so I then did both of these with sudo), and I didn't see any instructions for tinygles, so...
If you host a non-free repository, like Debian does, and tell the users "if you want non-free software, you can use this repository", you're effectively recommending that proprietary software, or at least offering to do so. You can disagree with the FSF on this, but the FSF's position is that...
Slow software OpenGL rendering is a lot better than the program not being able to run at all.
I can't seem to compile Mesa, though... it seems without some upgrades the newest version I can use is 7.9.2, which seems like it will work if I can manage to compile it, but I get an error when I try...
You're confusing "free software" with "copyleft". The BSD licenses are all libre. No one considers copyleft to be an ethical requirement; it's just a useful strategy.
But unless I misunderstand, you linked to a compiler for the OpenGL shader language (GLSL), not an implementation of OpenGL ES...
OK, maybe I shouldn't have been so arrogant as to assume that Tiled doesn't use OpenGL. Please allow me to retcon the question:
How can I install a software implementation of OpenGL ES to replace the proprietary hardware implementation?
I don't know much about wireless hardware, but if you're seriously considering it, you might want to ask Chris, the CEO of Think Penguin, if he knows of one. Think Penguin's whole business is selling the hardware that works best with libre software, so he'd be one of the most likely people to know.
So, just to make sure, I tested Tiled first, with libgles-omap3-es23 and libgles-omap3-dm3730 still installed. It opened as expected. Then I removed these packages, and tried again (a couple times). I got this in /var/tmp/pndrun_tiled.out:

To be perfectly clear...
_wb_, I've seen that thread, and it's a disaster. I won't go into everything (it's huge), but I'll just point out this one crucial error: a couple of you were insisting that the RYF requirements would allow something like repo.openpandora.org and PNDManager. This is a misunderstanding of what a...
The Pandora requires a proprietary firmware blob for wireless, unless that's changed since I left a couple years ago. I ordered a USB adapter from Think Penguin to address this for my Pandora and any future devices I may have with this problem (many wireless cards don't work on completely libre...
So, you think the WiFi and Bluetooth will be libre software compatible? That's quite uncommon. Would be quite an upgrade if it's true.
RMS had an XO laptop, not a Pandora.
Just curious. If it ends up being as good as or better than the Pandora, I could see myself getting one at some point. Compared to the Pandora, is it a step forward, about the same, or a step backward?
Another question of interest: I think I read somewhere that the Pyra's OS is going to be...
Thanks for the help!
I do have another related question now, though. I see that task-pandora-core lists libgles-omap3-es23 as a dependency, and task-pandora-xfce lists pandora-firmware as a dependency. What exactly are these packages, and what would be the effect of removing them? More...
Decided to revive my old Pandora; it'll be useful for a trip that's coming up, and it'll probably be useful again in the future with its battery life.
So, I'm trying to remove the proprietary software in SuperZaxxon, i.e. the wireless firmware and whatever the proprietary software related to...
Version 0.8.0 is out, and it comes with bugfixes, huge speed improvements, some new features, and a better Python 2 conversion.
If you're thinking of making a game for the Pandora in Python, try out the SGE! And if you find any bugs, report them. :)
No, it's the config files in .uqm. There's a shell script in the PND that copies a new default config to the appropriate directory so that the actual default config in the source never gets used.
The words "last beta" seem to be cursed. New version 0.7.0 is out, and features a number of new features and bugfixes. As always, the Python 2 version should work out-of-the-box on the Pandora. (Technically, version 1.9.2 of Pygame is listed as being needed, but the Python 2 version actually...
The game is certainly winnable. Actually, the AI is so incredibly stupid, winning is much too easy. You just need more practice.
As I said in a PM, I didn't change the UQM source code; all that's different in this Pandora port is the configuration (some different controls to better suit the...
