    Spare parts (2010-10-21)

Have visions of OPL running out of cases now that everyone is adding a full set of spares to their order! Any LCD cable is better than the one I have, but it would be good to know exactly what to avoid when fitting them. Even that assembly photo in full size (please).

Fresh news from the board production (2010-10-20)

The reason it is so hard to get photos out of an assembly company. That's someone else's product.

    Round 4. Fight! (2010-10-12)

actually, A9 devices are on the market already - doesn't make the pandora obsolete though, and for what I use it for not even too slow. Battery life on my Pandora beats the AC100... Form factor is the key thing.

Questions, Curiosities Re: the Business-end of Open-Pandora

Well, I think this extrapolation is nonsense. The board assembly company won't want this project sitting round in their factory for another 6 months. Each time the line is set up for a different product is a fairly big cost (like a day's downtime), so either they will eventually run off the next...

    Nubless an option?

nubs are pretty handy if you're not gaming. Most games I've used don't need them, but the desktop does use all the controls. Surprisingly, I think I could do without the touchscreen (but on a larger device touchscreen seems more valuable). Nubs certainly beat touchpad on the ac100 (which has...

    Round 4. Fight! (2010-10-12)

Look at it this way. If you didn't order, then no chance. If you ordered, you can wait till December, see if batch 2 is in progress, and then decide if it is still worth the wait. The nubs have been a problem, and until they bet placed on some boards, shipped, and delivered it is pretty hard...

Unable to login after Disable Wifi

So before getting on the plane this morning, I go into the start-up settings and set wifi not to start on boot. Seems OK. Shutdown, and board... Now, when I boot into xfce, I get a login screen (was set to auto-login), and password request. If I enter these, I just end up with the login prompt...

    Shipping date?

That doesn't prevent the casework/lid assembly, and I thought Craig had explained once that that was non-trivial, accounting for maybe 50% of the build time. I agree that the boards are a minimum of 2 weeks out, but there is probably 2 weeks of work that could be done without them. Of course, if...

    Shipping date?

I thought the estimate was 100 per day (and between 4 people, 15 minutes each seems possible).Even without the boards, they do need to do some pre-assembly of the lid. That can start as of last week, so there should be some progress with that before the first of the PCBs arrive. Assuming it is...

    2 years of waiting today

I felt I was missing out on this waiting thing, so I ordered one from batch 2, to go with my old one-nubber.

    Old nubs and refurbished boards

It might work, but the cost of replacing nubs is probably quite high in terms of both time and the risk of destroying a board. Depends how many people want a no-nubber at the original price (with the option of paying later to get if fixed). Anything else leaves the team out of pocket overall...

    just an idea...

The real problem is that we are relying on many small things not going wrong - at the moment, unless they decide to start shipping units with no nubs, there is a roadblock caused by the nub company not quite having thought through the product they offered to the team. It seems that after...

and it fails to mention that the AC100 is shipping already (and just about running Ubuntu, although currently still with the android kernel)

    23 ctn. /410 kg (2010-09-28)

Wondering if it makes sense to ship some nub-less PCBs to the UK, and have 400 nubs shipped direct. It might save a few days before things start again, but maybe the extra complication isn't worth while. Might be a way of hedging against customs delays.

    23 ctn. /410 kg (2010-09-28)

Is there a list of stuff that people can help out with for HF5 and beyond? I know it has been mostly ad-hoc to date, but lots of that has been fairly small tasks. If it gets to the stage where there is a bug list to close out before moving to OE-Testing, maybe we can help with some of that (or...

    The 1ghz overclock

Only if they are using the same OMAP device. Build it different, it will perform differently. Like comparing a 2l F1 engine with a production engine. The F1 engine is all precision aluminium, so revs higher. Both can run on race fuel or propane, and give different performance depending on the...

    Back-lit keyboard?

You could possibly drill and insert transparent epoxy in the key-mat, but I can't imagine how you could illuminate the lettering clearly or avoid destroying the conductive pads. Probably needs a new keymat with different materials. Not impossible, but not a weekend project...
