Able to upgrade not just the speed but manufacturer of CPU?

IIRC, they merely told him that he must work through one of their approved partners to design the circuit board. For the Pyra, that may not have worked, but if all ED is trying to do after that is design a CPU upgrade board, then why wouldn't he consider this avenue? -God Ginrai

Preorders Have Started. (Previously named starts in two hours)

@EvilDragon Is it locked in that the US version will be the PLS8-US instead of the PLS8-X? I'd be willing to shell out some extra money for the PLS8-X to ensure that it works on Verizon, seeing as it is certified by Verizon...

    Finalizing everything!

Since the buttons now are part of the keymat, I'm curious as to if they will feel the same as the keyboard buttons. I'm hoping they feel more solid. I was able to use the Pandora's keys in games, but it didn't feel nearly as nice as using the actual abxy buttons. Can you comment on how the 6...

    Bugs and Calculations

This is helpful. When I looked in the Pyra section the other day, I wasn't able to find anything other than shirts and mugs. I'd still prefer to receive an email before pre-orders start, rather than once people are already hammering the servers, however this at least puts my thoughts at ease...

Any possibility of this running PS2 emulators?

I realize you are playing Devil's Advocate here, but while it is true that the lower limit might be foggy, it's not true that nothing less than full-speed is playable. Enjoyable would be a solid argument, since it is a measure that is wholly reliant on opinion, but playable is not. -God Ginrai

    ... we're still alive!

Spoken like a person who never used a GP2X. When you make the volume control through software, people have to support it for it to work. That's why plenty of games for the GP2X forced you to go into menus to change the volume, or worse: didn't even allow you to change the volume in game. You...

Any possibility of this running PS2 emulators?

What about it? I never said all games are free from problems. It's unreasonable because you are using "playable" wrong. "Playable" does not mean perfect. It means that you can play it. That includes speeds that are slower than fullspeed, and without sound. You are confusing something you...

    ... we're still alive!

One of the reasons I was so excited for the Pandora audio wheel coming from the GP2X was because we had a dedicated audio management control that no one else could repurpose for something other than audio. Sadly, making the audio wheel software controlled on the Pyra removes that advantage...

    Bugs and Calculations

I'm sure I've missed this somewhere, but is there some place I can sign up to be emailed when you are doing pre-orders? I don't want to get caught up in RL and then come back to notice I've missed pre-orders. -God Ginrai

Any possibility of this running PS2 emulators?

There are a lot more than a "few" that run well. And plenty of them are popular titles. Honestly, the majority of the ones, that I am aware of, that have major problems are Rare titles, and that's because Rare often tested the limits of the hardware with their games. I'm not saying all games...

Pyra - too hot for you!

That makes it better. You don't even see it coming. :P -God Ginrai

Any possibility of this running PS2 emulators?

That's actually not true. There are plenty of N64 games that run fine even on the original Pandora with the current version of the emulator. For example, Bomberman 64: The Second Attack runs basically fullspeed, with only a couple of graphical glitches to worry about. Sure, Ocarina of Time...

    Release DraStic Nintendo DS emulator

Thanks for the response. I'd really love to see the rotation feature. I'll look forward to your coming update. Also, a free-form layout editor for the Pyra version sounds like an awesome idea. -God Ginrai

Any possibility of this running PS2 emulators?

So not unless someone comes along doing something similar to what Ari64 did? My answer was just going to be: "Not until we see a CPU board replacement with a more powerful SoC". -God Ginrai

    Stronger plastic this time?

Well, I meant compared to other game consoles. I'm sure there are plenty of more rugged PCs out there. I'm sorry if my wording mislead you. I've seen that video. It was a bunch of biased tests done by X-Play. The PS2 failed out at the beginning, and the Xbox "failed" because the front...

Running Android Apps in Pyra OS

That would be nice, but that's also not something hard to imagine... Bomberman 64 literally doesn't run on the Pandora. -God Ginrai

    Release DraStic Nintendo DS emulator

Is there no way to use vertical orientation, but rotate it? I tried to play Hotel Dusk, a game where you are intended to hold your DS sideways and use your DS screens as 2 portrait screens, and it seems next to impossible to play enjoyably without this feature. -God Ginrai

    Stronger plastic this time?

Pretty sure that's a myth. I've never heard of anyone shooting at their consoles unless they set it up to be shot at like Grench did with those PCs. The first Xbox did have a reputation for being near indestructable, tho'. I remember seeing a video of it years ago being run over by a truck or...
