    Stop the sirring noise!

That sounds even worse than the "whirring" noise I was assuming "sirring" meant. :( Hope we get this resolved. At least the way it is presented to us, it sounds to me like you are searching for an "equally good" solution rather than choosing the best solution. I'm not knocking you for trying...

ED specifically increased the size of the battery so that the Pyra should be able to hit similar battery life as the Pandora. And if you can't be bothered to plug in your device when you go to sleep... that's your problem, not a problem of the device's battery life. -God Ginrai

How the hell is 10 hours of real use a poor battery life? -God Ginrai

    Stop the sirring noise!

If you go this route. It will need to be fully tested. IMO, we should just go Tantalum. Aim for conflict-free Tantalum and if you can't get it, grudgingly get the conflict Tantalum and keep your eyes out for a chance to switch to conflict-free when the option becomes available. -God Ginrai

Honestly, I don't see any reason you need more than 10 when you have a removable battery. (and when most everyone has a power bank nowadays) Plus, the Pandora had ~10 hours of real use. Why do you think the Pyra would be worse? I would think the Pyra should be able to hit a few hours of real...

    Getting closer...

The Pyra is aiming for similar battery life to the Pandora with the current SoC. The Pandora had a great battery life. A new SoC should focus on more powerful processors, which should hopefully allow us to do the same for less while still opening up the possibility of broader horizons in...

    Getting closer...

The i.MX8 M definitely looks interesting, but I think you're right to suggest "first let's release the Pyra". By the time the Pyra finally comes out, maybe a more attractive SoC might have been announced. I know that I would not be very interested in an "upgrade" board that didn't really net...

    Shortest newspost ever... for now!

My only worry is that this isn't a planned color for the Pyra. A nice dark gray (or charcoal) is much more appealing to me than black, red, transparent, or translucent. And I'm loving the speckles in it. :) -God Ginrai

    Pandoralive Down?

Most of us are used to this from the Pandora. ED has been a lot less loose about promises than we got back when we were waiting for the Pandora, which I believe has generally allowed most of us to view the wait with a positive light. I understand if you choose to wait for an actual release...

Able to upgrade not just the speed but manufacturer of CPU?

It's more often how big companies leave a startup long enough for it to grow into something worth purchasing, which they do once it looks like it finally will start to become a threat. -God Ginrai

Able to upgrade not just the speed but manufacturer of CPU?

IIRC, ChromeOS is just dressed up Gentoo without the processes that make it Gentoo. So yes, it uses a Linux kernel. "A lot of heat" in comparison to what? From what I understand, the OMAP5 produces a lot of heat as well. So if this produces a similar amount of heat to the OMAP5, then it...

Able to upgrade not just the speed but manufacturer of CPU?

Getting them added to the list would be awesome, but I'm sure the selection process involves either paying money to nvidia to "join the club" or a sizable portfolio of designed products. nVidia releases the source for their kernels, etc. And supposedly (although I can only find a little bit...

Able to upgrade not just the speed but manufacturer of CPU?

Yea, our posts are starting to get a bit large. I'll try to trim what I respond to in this post. I see, well as long as we keep open all possibilities, I am happy. We don't necessarily have to move forward with ones that have problems as long as better options appear. But nVidia will sell...

Able to upgrade not just the speed but manufacturer of CPU?

To an extent. However, if EvilDragon intends to add any new features to the device through upgrades, that would also most likely be on the CPU board. But yes, there's a lot that will hinge on what SoC is used. -God Ginrai

Able to upgrade not just the speed but manufacturer of CPU?

I don't remember you explaining why it makes sense that a company that does not currently have a product is a good reason to dismiss a company that does. As the point I've been making is "do not dismiss what is possible", you would have either needed to make such a point, or both of our...

Able to upgrade not just the speed but manufacturer of CPU?

"could" already implies a potential. I already acknowledged that it was a potential in my statement. Now if you would read the following statements in the part you quoted, you would see my explanation of why I pointed out they have no offerings. There would be some who would be disappointed...

Able to upgrade not just the speed but manufacturer of CPU?

It's worth looking into. Their website is not much help. Some of their download links for their SoCs are dead links, and there isn't even a download link for the SoC they term as a "smartphone" SoC. I'm all for that. The more SoCs we learn about, the better the chances we can get a good...

Able to upgrade not just the speed but manufacturer of CPU?

I am not dismissing them. You suggested that there were plenty of other chip manufacturers who could provide for us instead of nVidia and Allwinner, and I pointed out that they currently have no offerings. Without offerings, they do not make good reasons to dismiss nVidia and Allwinner as...
