Never Mind The Joystick Center Button, What About The Sd Slot?

Yeah, so with all the discussion about the possibility of wearing out the joystick's center button, I was thinking;

I remove/re-insert the SD card several times during the day, adding/deleting files, testing wallpapers & icons, etc.

This has got to put some stress on those tiny springs and catches in the SD slot mechanism

What the FUCK are we going to do if it breaks from over-use??? :(

* Wishes USB support was less wanky and faster than using a card reader *

I was just thinking about this earlier today.. but I was more concerned about breaking the sd card than the 2x. I assume replacing springs wouldn't be a huge deal? Or is it a sealed mechanism? I've yet to open it up and take a gander..

well, i can say that both of my zodiac's sd slots still work great after 2 years of constantly removing/inserting the card. (I use it for a portable mp3 player) I don't think you have too much to worry about ;)

But a headphone jack falling into a unit is NOT a headphone jack staying onto a unit. If you know what I mean...

I'm lucky that at least my USB works without any problem at all.
But in your case .... yes, it is possible that the slot will ware out. I have a Palm top (Tungsten C), after two years the SD slot connect and disconnect every few minutes. So I have to abandon it (use with out the SD card.) This can possible happen with you.
I best advice is to try more to use the USB.

One year usage of my iMate pda with Wi Fi SDIO, switching between it and the SD card several times a day without any problem.

Good point, a piece of my SD card chipped away not long after I bought it and now only some USB readers are able to detect it. The SD are not as durable as you may think...and I am very careful when handling electronics.

you're retarded, what does that have to do with the SD slot?!

I guess he means that if the headphone jack can fall into the unit, the SD card slot could as well.

However, the difference is, the first headphone jack was poorly soldered (and that only in the first units), the jack itself didn't break.
The SD Card slot is also a standard one used in almost any other device. It's fixed pretty well on the surface of the board, so that can't happen here.

The stock SD slot is basically the same used in most SD devices. So it should last a bit. Also, JagMs, the headphone jack was an early defect that was the result of the company GPH contracted to manufacture the GP2X's being cheap. It no longer happens. Even so, the headphone is easy as hell to replace. A bipolar monkey with a soldering iron could probably do it.

Why are so many people worried about the smallest things? Just get on with enjoying the GP2X and stop worrying so much! These forums have become an outlet for a lot of worrying and whinging rather than being fun and productive.

You bought it. Now make the most of it and have FUN.

He was referring to build quality. You are the retard if you couldn't work that out.

The GP2X ate one of my 4GB SD cards. When I removed it it came out in pieces... I tried to tape it back together, but now it doesn't fit.

OMG. Same here. My adata 4GB.

But in the GP2Xes defence, I did drop it on a tiled floor.

I didn't tape my card.... I just removed the plastic on the site so it still works.

It wouldn't matter if it did, SDs have a ledge you can pull them out with. Unfortunately MemstickDuoPros don't have this :(
