i recently found a guide on how to back up games, but it says you need Phantasy Star Online to do it, something about making the GC think its connected to a network when its connected to your pc. anyway i was wondering if anyone here has ever made backups for there GC, how hard it is and if i could use mario kart double dash instead of PSO to make it connect to my pc? or if there is anyother way i can get my games onto backup discs?

thanks in advance :)

Gamecube without a modchip is a bitch to do anything to. PSO + BBA (broadband adapter) plus a few apps is the only way to backup and stream ISO's to the cube without a modchip for all I know. Dont even bother. lol.

Well then, you should be good to go. You still need the pso and BBA thing though. :( Sorry I cant help anymore. Ive only attempted once, and that was a long while ago.

If you have a mod chip, then you shouldn't need BBA + PSO.

PSO + BBA is for those that don't have a modchip. (IE me.)

I can explain the process if you wish, but I have no experience with a modded GCN. (the PSO exploit serves purpose enough to serve my needs (running a few backups and devving))

And no you can not use Mario Kart DD to perform the exploit. It has to be PSO. This is because the game has a bug in it, where the devs forgot to null terminate a string... the exploit puts random data into this non-terminated string until the point where a function would return. They then change the function return to the memory address of the homebrew code is.... and voila.

To make your own backups yes... I would expect so. You certainly need to find some way to stream the disc data from the cube.

Although I'm sure if you are only wanting to backup and are morally conscious, it wouldn't be out of the question to aquire some backups.

I've sold my NGC before al that stuff was possible, otherwise I would definitely know :( I'll be one of the first with the Wii :)

Here, just found a chip which allows you to backup...
There ya go!

Good luck!

Maybe you can use FlashFXP. Worked with the XBOX to rip games...

You can use miniDVDs with or without a Modchip.
The main issue is that the laser's pot needs tweaking in order to read your DVD+/-Rs

There are programs you can run via the PSO exploit that setup the drive ready to boot a backup disc.

Indeed... if I actually had all the tools necessary to install a modchip in my GCN, I would do.
The exploits aren't that much work really... You get everything set up and all the IP settings saved and it's merely a case of booting up PSO and going to the online mode... it connects to your PC and the goes "WTF this is homebrew! ... Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" Then runs it. If the homebrew lets you boot backups then... you play your backups.

Just as a btw... the SNES emulator on GC is quite nice!

If you can get hold of a max drive pro from Datel (It must be the pro version) then you can quite easily use GCOS on your gamecube.

This is a good option for running homebrew - it's a lot easier than trying to install a mod chip and a lot less hassle than using the PSO exploit.

Regardless of what you use you will still need the BBA if you want to backup games that you own.

I also recommend the Snes emulator!
