Since Code::Blocks does not seem fit for Java, how could I go about writing Java code on the OpenPandora? Its for school so I'll be working exclusively with the console (no heavy GUIs) so I think my 1ghz should be enough to run anything I write.

Any help would be great! :)

Geany has java support. Also, isn't there some eclipse pnd?

Geany is the most lightweight though I belive.

You can also try Bluefish or gedit. With gedit being the purist aproach ;)

Javac should be the compiler, that would need to be run from an java jdk. Not sure this is available from the java pnd but I don't think so.

I guess no ide has a java compiler on its own.

On my Mac from the terminal I can do "sudo javac /path/to/myJavaProgram.class"
Will this work on Angstrom?

Not as long as the jdk is not installed.

You could ask WizardStan if he can do something for you there.

You can install pandebian and use netbeans or something. It acts the same way, as your mac does. I use pandedian for my work with qt creator and opencv (c++ libraries).

The Oracle Java does have javac, but I haven't added it to the installer.

I'll do an update tonight, upgrade to the latest Java version, fix some issues with classpaths I've found, and add javac to the installer so you can just "javac program.class" just like on your desktop.

You're the best :)

I appreciate this too, I just started computer science and was sick of having to fire up my desktop everytime!

Eclipse does indeed have its own compiler, ecj. It's quite verbose in its output, you can easily tell when using a Java decompiler. Minecraft seems to be compiled with it BTW.

Uploading now. It's probably going to take a few hours, my network is going really slow as of late. Just refresh the repo every few minutes, it'll be there eventually.

Updated Oracle Java to 1.7.0_21, added javac to the installer (you'll have to re-run the install in order to copy the mini-executeable).

I wrote, built, and ran a Swing example application as a test, entirely on the Pandora. Let me know if there's any issues.

^Nope

It would be too slow even on a 1Ghz Pandora anyway.. hell it runs sluggish on my 8 Core I-7 Work Laptop..

Well java runs just fine, Eclipse is just a bloated mess.
