Virtualdub 1.4.7 Better Than Later Versions? No...

A lot of guides/people say that VirtualDub version 1.4.7 is better because it makes a smaller file at the same quality settings. This has troubled me for a long time and I finally found out why when I posted this thread at the Unofficial VirtualDub Forums

Basically, using XVid codec I used the same compression settings on both versions and the end result was that 1.4.7 made a much smaller file.

Turns out that using 200kbps Constant Bit Rate (CBR) in 1.4.7 doesn't actually do what it's told and actually it was encoding at more like 100kbps, so the later versions where actually working properly where this was not (gspot can tell you this info)

My ignorance was not taking time to realise what CBR meant...

I asked this question ages ago and no one knew the answer, so I hope this helps some one out there :D
