I love them all and I don't think I can ever come up with a favourite.
What about you though guys though?

I never had a NES at the time so it has no nostalgia value for me. Consequently, I have only tried out NES stuff through emulation and have only found a couple of NES roms that I care to put any time into, and they are Elite and Super Mario Bros.

The NES was my first ever console. I had:

Super Mario Bros
Super Mario Bros 2
Super Mario Bros 3
Zelda 2
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles
Flintstones

Super Mario Bros 3 was my favourite although I could never get past the second world (I was 5 at the time). Unfortunately my NES was stolen when I leant it to a friend of mine so I got a Mega Drive with the insurance, I still preffered my NES tho :(

The games are more nostaliga for me, I was one of the millions who rushed out and bought a NES in 1985, and have been a fan ever since.

It really depends on what game styles you like. Alot of good game for NES like
ShadowGate
Univited
Dejavu
Blaster Master
FF 1, 2 & 3,
Metriod
Castlevaina 2 Simons Quest
Castlevania 3
Lolo 1, 2 & 3
Earthbound Zero
Bomberman
Megaman 1 through 6
Dragon Warrior 1, 2, 3 & 4
Dungeon Magic
Star Wars Empire Stikes Back
Gargoyles Quest 2
The Gaurdian Legend!
Life Force
Romance of the Threee Kingdoms
Solar Jet man
Uncharted Waters
Air Fortress
Swords and Serpents
the Contra games
Legendary Wings

I should stop now...I can go on and on and on.....

So far I got:

Megaman 5
Mario Bros.3
Zelda 2 (couldnt find Z1)
Paperboy
TETRIS
MT punch out
Balloon Fight
and Baseball Stars 2

Megaman 5 and Mario are my faves

Nobody mentioned Star Tropics, I love this game. Also Chip and Dale have somewhat of a childhood connection for me ;) Then there's Little Nemo. DAMN is this game hard, but good... don't make me tell you about all the games I love, it would take too long :p

Little Nemo is a wonderful game. Also, play Gremlins! My problem on the gp with hard games is that I use savestates on the verge of abuse. First one to admit it though! Another hard one is Cobra Triangle. But yeah really to many great games to mention.

I like the older games mostly...

Marble Madness
Bubble Bobble
Captain Skyhawk
Blaster Master
Metroid
Wizards and Warriors 2: Ironsword

My favorite...

Solar Jetman

My favourites have to b-
Super mario bros 1 & 3

I don't really like 2 as much because it didn't feel like a mario game, chucking vegetables rather than jumping on their heads wasn't really as fun!!!

My favourite nes game is Elite at the moment. Shame I don't get the chance to play it much as I'm addicted to Star Wars Galaxies.

Off Topic:

I've never really paid much attention to the animation in Super Mario World on the snes but looking at Ernests avatar it really looks like Mario is belting Yoshi in the head to make him stick his tongue out.

I agree, mario 2 didnt feel like mario to me....

I like Mario 3, it was/is a great mario game. I wish it had the option of going back and forth between worlds and replaying completed levels like mario world had though...that would have made Mario 3 perfect.
Was mario 3 one of the later NES games because if you look at them the games did get a lot more advanced as they got newer. one of the best is super ninja turtles 1+2, double dragon(got it the other day and couldn't believ how advanced it was!) and shadow warriors. Aslo cobra triangle which almost created a 3d effect when the boat turned. Also btw was there ever a NES game which was slightly 3d. Also Akuma no Houkon where did you get dragon warrior!? must have!
