mashmods.com are offering the voltage mod for the gp32 that allows overclocking to 166Mhz

They also say that they wont make a 32MB ram upgrade <_<

now we will never be able to load roms over 4MB, no tales of phantasia on snes, no zipped doom wads, no gba roms over 4mb with gp advance  :(

I wonder if my soldering skills are up to doing the ram mod... I've got some old soundcards here that have similar sized ram chips so I suposse I can practice on those (been a while since I've done soldering on anything like this scale, and even then it was just a couple of dry joints).

out of interest, wont it shorten the length of the processor, overclocking it - theres nothing to cool it is there?

i actually dont understand mashmods... lets guess that gp advance soon will be perfect but youll need the 32mb ram upgrade.
now, wouldnt EVERY singel gp32 owner send his gp32 there?
they could make millions of cash!!

The OC mod:
well, you can still make that mod yourself
true :)

I dont know your soldering skill but I know mine and it is not very good
but I managed to do the job without any probs...
Just be sure to verify the R48 & R52 value before modding because they can be different from what is written on http://www.cobbleware.com/gp32/gp32oc.html

Good luck if you make it by yourself...:)

see you

i can't believe they decided to not make the 32mb mod now it is not viable for me to send my gp32 all the way to canada f'in Jerkoffs.....

I did only the OC mod now...
Im planning to do the 32M as soon as some games/emus are better with....Now it is not supported so no need to risk my GP32 life for that
but the OC mod is fine :)

see you

I sent my GP32 in to mash about an hour ago for the OC mod...ill let you know the results, I should get it back in about a week :)

If anyone is a jerkoff its you for saying something that selfish and stupid. Mashmods, per request decided to take a chance and do the voltage mod so everyone that cannot OC to 166 can finally overclock, they should be praised if anything!

Not really, you have to buy PC ram for the upgrade, so you have to pay for not only the PC ram, but the time and effort of mash actually doing the mod, so its not very cheap, so the cost and the risk, compared to the number of programs / games that take advantage of this mod (ZERO!) isnt worth it yet. If you noticed, he used alot of "right now" terminolgy, leaving the possibilty open for the mod in the future if any games/apps support it.

As for the GBA emulator, as far as I read there was no plan to support a 32 MB mod in the emulator. So unless the author decides to support 32 MB mods, it wont make a difference anyway.

Also, he has a way to load 8 MB roms (just not 16 MB roms) with the current system, so you are not missing out on "much".

I was scared to death when I installed an AfterBurner in my GBA, I can't imagine doing a voltage mod or a 32MB upgrade!

I broke my first GBA installing an Afterburner kit! Actually, I installed it properly, but when everything was put back together I noticed the screen was a tad bit crooked, so I took it apart and ended up cracking the LCD trying to get it back together again.

My second Afterburner installation, however, went flawless.

However, I did fry THREE Playstations trying to put a mod in myself...I ended up letting the pros do it lol. I always hooked it up, and soldered it EXACTALLY to the specifications (and im pretty good with a soldering iron), yet each time I would do it, the PSX would not read ANY cds anymore, and one wouldnt even start up!. Even if I removed the modchip....oh well...that was 6 years ago...I could probably trust myself to do it again...but I wont. Bad memories!

Now, if it is anything more complicated than an afterburner kit, or more risky, I let those who are experianced in this field do it. Therefore I sincerly thank mash for doing this mod, and think anyone who calls him a jackass because he wont do the 32 MB mod, should be castrated and publicly caned (I mean that in the nicest way possible). Its because of mash that I will now be able to enjoy my GP32 to its maximum potential in emulators and such.

The 32MB mod can always come later if any apps/games that are worth it actually start using it. So far, there are no games or apps that take advantage of it, and none that are planned. So its not really worth it, yet.
