Who Fancies A Challenge?

you are funny

how do you suppose you would fit an ENTIRE cd onto 1 smc? yes, you can remove gfx and whatnot....but stilll. that leaves VERY little room for movies and the like

most of the NeoGeo CD games are actually cut down versions of the AES with proper audio CD music added, they reduced the animation frames in order to speed up the CD loading times on the 1 speed machine, they released a CDZ which had more ram and the later generation games were more accurate ports of the AES versions.

just write a neogeo emulator and make it used hacked CDZ roms to save on memory.

Thats an interesting development. Pretty cool. How big are the CD images, can't imagine them being all that big? (minus the sound tracks).

edit: Woo, guru :)

You MUST've played on a Neo Geo. Loads of great arcade games ran on the hardware, and the beauty of the (very expensive) home console was that it was exactly the same hardware - so you had the ACTUAL arcade machine (minus the cabinet) in you own home in front of the telly.

The games that came on cart were heart stoppingly expensive, and the CD technology of the time was slow and expensive.

Fatal Fury, Sonic Wings (aka Aero Fighters), Samurai Showdown, the original Puzzle Bobble, and games that were prefixed Neo- (Neo-Bomberman, Neo-Mr Do) were all released on Neo Geo. I think Golden Axe and Double Dragon were ported to it as well. Mame runs 147 at the moment with more games available, but deactivated because the games are still taking money "in the wild".

ive got a couple of neogeo CD games, i'll have a look at the size of them.

sidekicks soccer
samurai shodown RPG
Pulstar

the file sizes aren't so big, even the biggest are only around 30mb (off the top of my head)... so now for the easy bit.. 15 day entry anyone??? :D

MMmm this is getting more interesting isn't it.

Since it seems to be full speed on the DC (with sound? Can't find any sure answers) its certainly a possibility, great way to avoid the ram limitation by emulating the CD based version.

Edit: Looks like were probably screwed, the neo-geo CD system had a massive 7meg of ram (in 1994!). Probably too tight for a stock GP :(

Fingers crossed for some updates to the DC version!
