I want to prove him wrong (I need links, user statements, and names of the emus and what they emulate please) can anyone help me here?

try looking on the download section for most of your info dude.

He is actually fairly correct. I'm not sure that one single emulator on the GP32 is "perfect". Then again, very few if any emulators on any platform, including PC, are "perfect"... that being 100% compatability with every game for the platform at 100% speed, sound and control.

As stated above, there's loads of info on the individual emulators, check the links and download sections of this and affiliated sites. For a quick list, the GP32 can emulate VERY well: PC Engine (TG-16 in US) and SMS/Game Gear. Just barely below the level of these emulators: C64, MSX 1/2, Atari ST and NES (sound issues is about it, currently being worked on). Emulators with some problems (not 100% speed and/or iffy compatability - at least some games playable): Atari 2600, SNES, Vectrex, Wonderswan, Gameboy and Gameboy Color and NeoGeo Pocket (a new one is being developed as well). In addition there is a program called ScummVM ported from PC that plays old Lucas Arts graphical adventures with great compatability, a DivX movie player and MP3 players (an Ogg player has been started). Genesis and MAME emus are in progress with no public releases.

I'm probably missing a few to boot, but this gives you an idea. All of the emulators are usuable, only the ones "with some problems" can really be picked apart... and even on these emus there are games that run well and make them worthwhile. One noteworthy item... there seems to be much more active development/improvement of emus for the GP32 than most systems. As an example, over the last few days we went from someone starting the ST emu to having one compatible with and playable with the majority of ST games.

"Show me a game thats perfect" - this is what you should say to your friend.... how many updates/patches are released these days for games? How many bugs have you seen with the graphics of a game, sound, level design etc? Yup... nothing is perfect.

If your friend does not like the GP32 and likes to slag it off... let him... his own choice, at least you know this little device has potential and some amazing support from the coders out there plus lets you play some really well designed and playable games.... :D

Frodo (C64) and GP-Engine (PC-Engine) are the two closest to "perfect" I'd say, with the VCS32/GP2600 (Atari 2600), Castaway (Atari ST) and a few others closing the gap rapidly. PLUS the commercial stuff, PLUS the development stuff, PLUS the emulators not even released yet (I've seen one or two and they are AWESOME) ...

But, as others have posted, if you have to explain the GP32 to someone then forget it. Let them keep their GBA.

Why spend loads of energy to try to persuade people, they won't listen if they're that stubborn - let them find out for themselves.... Time will tell :D

hell, no game is perfect no emu is perfect
ask him if there is a perfect GBA games

It's also a blatant ripoff of Military Madness, one of the best games for the TurboGrafx-16.

dont even bother convincing. he either likes it or not. as far as specs.. the GP32 is way more than the GBA. Doesnt mean it's better than GBA..

but if you like NON-mainstream stuff and classic games..

i think your BEST bet is with the future of GP32 (for emulation). I don't even bother with emus for GBA. I'm not a developer but i hear its much easy to work with too.

GP32 is more or less a COOL TOY then a die-hard gaming system. I pretty sure *most* everyone in the scene would say the same.

GBA is awesome for games. Hands down.
GP32 is awesome for indy dev. and bringing back the classics.

Well said Octavius. I have both systems and they each have their strong points.

But you really should see PocketNEs on GBA - it's amazing! =) I'm sure in a few months time GP32 NES emulation will pass it by, given enoug htime and work, if only because the GP32 screen and controls are better. But if you ever see PocketNEs on GBA you will be truly in awe of the guys who made it. It's as close to perfection as you could ask from a portable NES!

On the other hand, if you compare PCE Advance for GBA and GPengine, then you truly see the limits of GBA for emulation. It just can't do much because of the slow CPu and limited memory. The GP32 destroys it in that respect.

In 6 months, I think emulators on GP32 will be famous for how good they are, and people won't need to prove anything to anyone. Just need more time for some of the best emus to develop and be optimized.

tell him to ask you in a month or two when your playing st games and on a great NES emu or playing Sonic 3 on the Genesis emu

personaly i would be suprised if anyone who owns a GP32 doesn't/hasn't owned a GBA as well. GP32 is obviously more powerful but GBA has better software support.

My opinion: buy both B)

btw: the GBA nes emu (pocketNES) is superior!
