well it stoped working and I dont know hats wrong w/ it

it pisses me off when I want to play games that need the CD most game now do.....

my cd burner works so I can install and play some game though that but some game refuse to ple through it

so any Ideas on how to fix it or if I should just get a new one??

Im not sure on the mak eor modle but I dont think its a driver problem and its connected to my pc....

Im going to try to clean the lens some how too...

EDIT: Im running w98

Excuse me, but what exactly is the problem? Does the disc not spin? Will it not be recognized by windows? Or what is it?

Have you tried changing the IDE cable? Have you altered anything before this problem occured, especially any jumpers on your CD-ROM?

well I fergot to plug them back in after I installed my second hard drive

but I pluged them back in and if I remeber corectly i didnt touch the jumpers and the problem occerd befor that...

just never realy needed it because the CD Burner would run the things I needed but it wont play some games that need the CD...

well lets see...
maybe try checking the jumpers just in case and have ur CD set to master and ur burner as slave...
the CD might be slave or there could be a conflict if theyre both the same
if that doesnt work maybe switch the power cable.
if not than i have no clue... but dont take it in to a shop. drivers are under 20 bucks or... well very cheap. (I dont really know the conversion if ur outside US can or mexico)
hope that helps

A good solution, if you have the hard drive space, is to ISO the CD's with the burner drive and using Alcohol 120% or something. Then, install a virtual cd-rom device. Load the ISO's into the virtual cd-rom drive, and vagina! your CD's are now loaded off of the hard drive. It's really not such a bad solution.

A120% comes with the virtual drive :D

If the disc doesn't spin, maybe it's the motor, unless it spins with others, then it doesn't reconize the CD, unless it puts the name in My Computer part, then my sir, i have no fucking clue, polly jumpers whatever they do *lol i duno XD*

If it spins and reads CD but does not exicute them, then go get alcohol120% and use the virtual CD/DVD drives on that and extract an ISO from the CD *Get the crack if you do not want to by* and then get ClonyXXL if you still canot run on virutal CD, but i do not think making an ISO the computer that you need the copy protection encoded into the ISO *needed on some game copiesdue to software checking for the copy protection.

Yeah, I just remembered I used to have a problem with my dvd-rom. The solution: ripped it out. :D Anyways, the problem was that whenever I put a cd in it, it would try and read it and my system would lock up for a long time. And when it came back, the device was no longer present in my system.

CD-ROMs don't always have the longest lifespan. But luckily they're cheap enough now. My DVD-ROM was like 2-3 years old when it went. I think I can get the same one for half what it was when I got it.
