hello all,
wondering if someone on here could help, im in the proccess of building up a new pc, its been a while since ive done it, things have changed alot. Heres the prob, ive bought an msi motherboard which doesnt have a monitor port on it, the motherboard has a AGPX8 slot, but i dont want to buy a graphics card yet, so i borrow a voodo 3 of my mate which goes in the PCI slot and i get nothing.. when i switch on, it sounds like the pc is ticking over good on switch on, i hear the hard disk other drives etc, plus all the right lights/fans start. Will i need an AGP card? or am i just doing someting stupid?
thanks

I have a board with an AGP8X slot, but using a PCI video card and I don't have a problem at all... It would almost have to be something else, like the monitor, the cable or something... I don't see a reason why it wouldn't load up, unless your friend wiped the card's BIOS to use it as a second monitor, that's my only other guess.

Do you get or hear any beeps from the mobo, If so, What do they sound like, As in long, Short, 2 3 4 5 beeps ?.
What happens if you press F1 or F2 or Del or F10 or the Esc key when you switch on ?, It should go into the bios, Does it ?

Ok, Can tell me if your motherboard has Onboard graphx, Beacause the voodo is old, Also being PCI the motherboard wont recognise it,PCI graphx cards normally have plug and play. But you really need an agp board,You say the Motherboard has no monitor port,It could be TFT only?Im not actually sure what TFT ports look like,Seeing as I havent really been loookin seriousl at them.

hello all
thanks for all your replys/help. I know the voodo is old, i just wanted something to get by untill payday, as after a nice, fast AGP card. Ive spoke to msi and they think its a power issue to do with the akasa fan and case fans i have, gonna take it apart on sunday and try out a few things, also begged and borrowed a AGP card of another friend. to trooper, i get no beeps, and if i press del for bios, i still get nothing on the display, thanks for you help again all.
ill post on sunday, if ive sorted it, or ask your all another stupid question if something else doesnt work : )

YES I DID. SEVERAL TIMES.

Hm. Of course I can not say for sure as I do not know what exactly happens (it's rather hard from a distance ;)), but have you tried using other IDE cables?
