in Gamestation earlier, I got my hands on a dedicated Retro magazine! The price may be a bit steep at £5.99 with a Cd with emulators and remakes on it, but it's gotta be worth it.

And the next issue (April) will have a feature on playing old games on the GP32! :D

whose it by? is it a professional mag by a proper publisher?

Never thought we'd see a professional retro mag didn't think there would be enough interest - although the Edge's RETRO efforts seem to have down quite well.

I wonder if I'll be able to pick it up in Tesco's?

Just picked up a copy myself, it's by live publishing and yes it is a professional mag - looks promising but not the fattest of magazines

I was amazed at the retro sections in other magazines, and the games shops actually having a 'retro' section... didn't realise this stuff had come back in so much!

Picked my copy up this morning, and yes it is supposed to look scruffy.

Not a bad first issue, its kinda thin as mentioned previously, but some of the content is quality, the adverts from 1983 were class.

Havent looked at the disc yet, not expecting too much, but its the most interesting gaming mag ive bought in quite some time, and i generally pick one up once every couple of weeks

Hope it grows in strength, if it continues at least as good as this, ill be happy to get it each month.

Although i could see them getting introuble for encouraging the playing of commercial roms (for the gba it suggests trying before you buy, hence saying to play games you dont own) and i was amused to see they recommended 'scouring the darker side of the web' for a psx bios rom.

Cool enough mag, and worth £6 of any retro gamers pocket money

I bought this magazine last week and here is my verdict...

For a first issue its not too bad - Obviously produced by a small team of retro fans. The front cover is straightforward and quite striking.

However the design in the magazine ranges from average to terrible - Its like looking at a style magazine from the 1980's in some articles!

Some of the features, such as the Mastertronic article (which is a re-edited piece from a couple of websites) are very good. The Top 10 games feature takes up a lot of valuable space and should have featured more screenshots.

The News section needs to be increased and should feature remakes/emulation news. The feature on emulation near the back was quite good, if touching too briefly on certain computers.

So Overall not a bad effort but changes do need to be made...

Found a copy in our local Borders shop. Deserves to do well - buy a copy everyone! don't know how they'll manage to fill a cover CD every month though

Thought id resurrect this topic, since issue 2 is out now, a quality issue it is too

There is a mention of gp32, comprising mostly of a summary of emulators avaliable and a link to the gp32x homepage

More interesting is the whole homebrew consoles feature, where they recommend that everyone gets a modded xbox to play mame games on, and even mention the phantasy star online exploit for the gamecube

Good mag, ive just subscribed for the next 6 issues, i hope it lasts that long ;)

I wish i'd read this topic earlier, sounds really good. The GamesTM magazine also has a great retro section. When I first got my GP, the only Emu's and games I played, were those i'd already owned. Reading reviews in GAMES and this site led me to branch out to things i'd never played (snes, genesis,in that era I had C64, ST and Amiga). And led me to buy a SNES and Genesis too.

The Cover CD on Issue Two seems to be a lot better than the first one - Its a remakes special which contains (amongst others) 'Klass of 99' (Skool Daze remake) and a few Monty Mole games too!

The magazine has improved too - Theres a classified ad's section (with some ads from me in there!), six pages of readers letters, a feature on Newsfield Publications and loads more. The best news is that they have changed the design slightly, so the typeface is easier to read!!

Definitely worth buying...
