I have Just got my GP32 and cant seem to do anything with it.
does it have internal memory or is the 8Mb it comes with an external card because i only got a USB cable with mine?

I cant seem to get the PC<->Gp32 connection software to work
all i get is my gp32 saying SMC error-please insert SMC-this is why i wonder if I am missing the memory card or do i need something else to connect my gp32 to my pc.

i have an athalon 1.7 running windows xp

8 Megs is the internal RAM, not a hard-disk or SMC...

... In order to get it to link properly to the PC you need to have a smartmedia card in, so you should get a hold of one of those first.
Then, hopefully, you'll be able to get somewhere...

You can order them from Entware, GBAX... or just go and buy one from your local retailer, if you don't already have one; just check anywhere that sells digital cameras or PCs... they'll probably have them in stock, although you'll probably pay quite a lot for a decent sized one.

ok-thanks.Just two more questions-what exactly can you do with the internal 8mb memory-anything or is it just system ram?
and what sort of memory card do i need?is there only one type or is there a particular type of memory card?

The internal memory is like the RAM in your PC... in fact it IS RAM... its where the programs get loaded when you run them. Very useful. Necessary, even. You don't use it exactly; but anything you download for the Gamepark (or buy, for that matter) will.

So far as what type of external memory you should get... the only one that works (as I said) is SMARTMEDIA cards (sometimes called SMCs). You need to be careful that you get one that runs at 3.3 volts not 5v, as the 5v ones won't work with the GP32. That usually means you shouldn't go for anything above 128mb, but I suppose someone might have released a 256 one that runs at 3.3v; they exist for 5, but not for 3 though so far as I know, so best to avoid them.
If you haven't a clue what I'm talking about, just say SMARTMEDIA to the guy behind the counter at the local PC shop; he/she should be able to help you.
