sounds like i need a card reader to speed up transferring

what sort of cards would i be able to write to as storage ?

how much can the cards hold ?

which is the cheapest 'type' of card.. smc etc..

thanks, clueless about this

you can buy all sorts of combo card readers, you can pay like $30-40 for a name brand one if you like I guess.

but screw that fancy BS, you can get a great deal if you shop around a little. I found a combo CompactFlash/SMC reader at Fry's for like 11 bucks - I bet if you search arount the net you can find similar stuff no problem.

I don't know how high the cards can go, storage-wise - if I recall correctly, SMC and CF go up to 512 at least - as was mentioned below, all of that is irrelevant in the matter of GP32 (uses only SMC, 128MB maximum) But if you just need to transfer data between places, it's a good deal.

right... i was hoping... that a multi-reader could read 512 cards so i could transfer 512 worth from the pc to the card.. and then transfer some of it to a standard smc in the gp...no ?

If you're in the UK, best I found was www.ebuyer.com or www.amazon.co.uk for multi card readers around £7ish and 128Mb SMC's at about £20 a piece...

why do people have card readers then ? just to read their camera cards etc ?

i'm lost to the advantage of them.... ?

For the GP32: a cardreader transfers files faster, without 8 character filename or 3 character extension limitations and you don't have to use the GamePark software (which is not exactly brilliant / bugfree).

In general: lots of people have different systems (mp3-player, digital camera, GP32, PDA) using different cards. It's easier (and faster) to just connect one cardreader for all those systems.
