Hi

I'm a graphic designer, so while the hard-coding scene of the GP32 really interests me, I'm not likely to ever be able to break into it.

What are the chances of someone coming up with a Flash player for it so that people like me can get their hands dirty? we could come up with games, demos etc more easily then and there are loads of Flash games floating about on the internet already. I heard that new phones & PDAs etc are going to support Flash so the scene is about to open up and there will be a precedent for it.

Just a thought, Macromedia might have something to say on it though, although it wouldn't be hurting them, but someone would need to pick apart their baby...

just making the only reason of making a flash player for GP32 so people can port their swf files to their GP32 to make a game is pointless, if your going to code a game, code it and compile it for the GP32... EZ way outs usually lead to crappy games overall, i admit, there is some good flash games, but mostly all of them lack substance

wtf is is with the little R?

Thanks for the reply...

Flash Player would be useful as I said because compiling and coding etc are things which a lot of people (such as yourself I expect) are very familiar with but people such as myself are not.

Flash would enable me to write software for the GP32, and a lot of interesting stuff already exists. The more home-coders and participants there are for the GP32 the better surely? If new phones and PDAs are going to lead to Flash games becoming more plentiful and playable, then a GP32 Flash player would open up a new resource, that's all.

Flash is a hugely versatile tool, but it doesn't specify a quality of games or software, that's down to the author.

The little R is the way I end my posts.

actually i suck at coding XD even flash
i was just pointing out that you should try to learn coding other than flash, most coding is related somehow *sadly only thing i have coded is web pages and some fancy smancy NPCs for GraalOnline*shudders**

Flash, as i have previously stated, would be a good idea, but it's like... child safety locks on bottles, hard enough so some people cannot do it, but ez enough so others can... god i can never get the damn asprin open half the time due to the cap being on like glue. this analogy can also be used as anyone can mkae a flash game, but a good one is very hard to make :D

You can get involved in a project in which you are the GFX admin dude and make the gfx and such :D, less work for you and you can focus only on gfx

I think it coulb be good to add a flash player to the well program database of the GP32
Theres more than just games with flash...
some good (and usefull) can be found around the net!
But im not really waiting forward for that kind of soft...
Id rather see Open snes working as good as the GP32 can handle

see you ;)

A flash player would be nice for the cool movies out there. I'm not very fond of most flash games, as most of them bore me to death.

I think everyone would love a Flash player, but it's never going to come from Macromedia, thats for sure. To get the licence and SDK you have to pay thousands of dollars and even then they will only let the company have it if they think the revenue from it will be worth it. The GP32 is far too unknown for Macromedia to give a damn about it.

The only real option we have is if someone ports one of the opensource players that are floating around on the internet. I'm guessing its a pretty big job though, otherwise someone would have probably started trying.

Actually I think I remember someone on this forum saying they were going to give it ago, but that was a while ago now. I wonder if they got anywhere.. :)

Yeah, I agree that it's never going to happen, but it IS a cool idea and so qualifies for this forum!

As ThndrShk2k says, it does require knowledge to get results from Flash, but it could be a friendlier way in for some people and there is a lot of Flash support on the web. It would lead to the GP32 sharing functionality with other devices and platforms, kind of like Java (Can the GP32 do that?!)

I doubt Macromedia would see it as any form of threat, but rather they are unlikely to show any interest so it would require some dedicated individual to step in - and there wouldn't be much in it for them at this stage (apart from a glowing sense of pride and achievement, but you can't put that in the bank)

one stupid idea : what about sending a mail or something to macromedia to ask them...'coz they could be interested with the GP32....
I know this sound stupid but it could work (in another dimension)
see you ;)

That's not a stupid idea, but it ought to be GamePark who sends that mail first, I expect they would recognise the benefit of being able to say the GP32 ran Flash content enough to pursue it with Macromedia? Perhaps they already did...

Anyway, any decent HTML/Web browser for the GP32 would benefit from Flash functionality too - a few people have suggested a web browser on these forums...

In another dimension, the GP32 runs the entire US Military Missile Defence Programme! (From a 16Mb SMC too, not bad...)

so will we have to wait for Gamepark to make the 1st step?....If so I guess we will never have a HTML browser 'coz they dont really to be interrested with their own babies...
that a little bit disappointing but who knows....maybe!

see you ;)

I took some time to look through the old thread on the subject and do a little googling and revived this thread rather than start a new one to say it's all just kinda sad that the idea has been touched on several times but without success because the SDK for flash is expensive and he only people who might attempt to pay for it is GamePark (who have enough on their plate without this).

Then I remember something said about the GPi was that it have some form of Linux and thought "Hey they might have flash for that!" but even then thats a dead end because no one has acces to the GPi's version of linux(assuming it ever existed) and even then there's no gaurentee it'd work on the GP32.

The closeest I've seen to a possiblt resource is http://www.openswf.org/code.html but apparently this dosent offer any help because it dosent have Sourcecode... but prehaps it's worth watching as if a free/open version were to ever show up, surely it'd be there right?

Oh well, that's all I have to say on the topic.

So maybe this library could be very useful:

SWFDec

It's a Flash decoding library and includes sources for a GTK+ program and a Mozilla plugin...

Yeah I read that article too and I realy hope there will be a flash player.
I have'nt bought a GP32 yet but I'm close to shelling out the cash. And a flash player would realy be the iceing on the cake. I'm starting work on a flash game now and it would be cool to get it running on the GP32.

I would settle for a player with support for sound, images and action script.

Is there any other way for a non programmer to make shot em ups and fightgames with a language as easy as actionscript?
