I think everyone here is going to tell you to buy a GP32, mainly because this is a GP32 forum ;)

Personally I'm going for the GP32, it has a huge sellection of games (by that I mean all the systems it can emulate), low running costs (£25 smartmedia card, GP32 & batteries are all you need, no need to ever buy a game), and the fact that it can play movies, MP3s, ebooks etc. It seems to be very good value for money :)

i got them all.

GP32 is awesome for homemade stuff.. emu's, demo, games, movies, mp3.

GBA is for good commercial games. tons. thats about it though..

Wonderswan is good for some games and RPGs but you better know how to read japanese. crystal swan is ok but doesnt DO much more in my opinion.

NeoGeo Pocket Color is awesome and solid. very few games but they are all good. only problem is finding them. even here in japan they are rare.

go for the GP32..in my personal opinion. It is the most versatile handheld system ever created. Movies, MP3, e books, Emus, Commercial games, picture GIF and JPG viewer... PLus more homebrew games being produced every month....its beautiful.

I had a GBA for two years and turned it on exactly twice. Part of that was of course the horrible screen. I bought a light that snapped over the top which only seemed to make it worse. It worked okay when standing two feet away from a lamp, but any other time I literally could not see what was going on.

GBA blows away the GP32 in the "new game" dept. However, if you're a person who likes older gaming systems, emulation, mp3s, watching movies on the go, and tinkering, then the gp32 is for you.

Flack

I'd say the Gp32, with the GBA a second(because of how well its supported)

The swan series is on its way out much like the NeoGeo Pocket Color. The GP32, however, is virtually guaranteed to keep going thanks to its open source SDK, as ports and emulators are all coming out, and the commercial games are getting better.

Add in DivX and MP3, and you've got a good handheld =)

There exist emulators on GP32 for WSC and NGPC.

They're not perfect, but that's mainly because they're not finished...

So I think that your choice is really mostly between GBA and GP32.

GP32 can't emulate the GBA very well yet, and GBA has a lot more new games coming out for it, obviously, so it makes for fair competition.

That's not to say that the GBA has MORE games. Just more NEW games.
The GP32 has thousands of playable emulated games.

Plus GP32's a good choice if you like Lucasarts adventure games and would like to play them on a portable device. ;)

Personally, I would suggest waiting until the GP32 comes out in England hopefully this year, and buying it then, because it will probably cost a lot less (it costs only $90 in it's home country, vs. $150 at import dealers, so expect a price drop when it comes to Europe)
