Ultima 7

It would be good for me too... on the bright side, 'Colourless' posted that he 'hadn't forgotten about it' back in July, so maybe he's working on it.

to pass the time while we wait for a playable port, may I take the liberty of quoting a passage from the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom

Avatarhood is a living gift. It must always and forever be nurtured to flourish. For if thou dost stray from the paths of virtue, thy way may be lost forever.

Well, here's my first post on this subject... I WOULD LOVE U7 on the GP!! I'd certainly be willing to donate for this!
love it
love it
love it!!

Sad to still don't have success to attract some coders to port it on GP :(
but I don't loose hope :)
Maybe we should organize a compo for that? :D

Someone in this thread said that the code is "lying around". Want to have a look at the code, anyone has a link?

WOW :) it's really a great news to see that somebody will take a look at the code ;)
I wish so much that the port is possible :)

Then don't forget you would become a hero for all of us & even for next generations to bring to the GP32 THE ultimate RPG ;p & I am sure you would also receive some donation ;p

Please give us some news in any cases :)

Here's the sourceforge site: http://sourceforge.net/projects/exult/

It may be easier to port an already ported source, like the Zaurus release, there are various other ports I believe but I no nothing about programming so don't know if this helps....

Digitalrat - I pledge to donate £20 if you release a playable version of Exult that is completable. Come on, who's with me? How bad do you want this port?

Please don't except to much from me. I've never programmed any program for the gp32 because I don't have one, but I programmed some for Linux. Because I'm interested in buying one (see marketplace) and Exult/Ultima7 seems to be a very good game I wanted to take a look at the code because I wanted to know how much work it is to port it to the gp32. I thought that the code for the hole Ultima7 is available, but Exult use the data and graphics files which seems to be not open. So I need to buy Ultima7 first, which I will do for sure, because it seems to be a nice game. I don't know if I could even port it.

I don't want to make much hope and don't want to discourage other programmers.

To use the Zaurus-port seems to be a good idea, but I couldn't find the source-code of this port. (only the binary file)

I wish you to find a GP32 soon coz it's really a great machine :) what's more if you want to improve your programer skills then it's a perfect machine ;p
and yes it's necessary to own Ultima VII to play with Exult ;) I hope you'll find it soon too & enjoy it as we do :)
btw don't worry we won't hold our breath for this project, as you saw this topic appear long long time ago ;) but we still hope that one day somebody will port Exult to GP32 ;p
thanks anyway :)

Hi,

It's possible to run Exult and Pentagram (Ultima 8 port) with SDL with the help of GP32Linux. Actually, this is the most exciting thing that my GP32 is going to do on its life ;-)

I tryied running Exult with the current kernel provided by gp32linux (2.4.13). Since I needed a partition with write-support (to store saved games), I've partitioned my SMC with a JFFS2 filesystem. The bad thing is that JFFS2 at 2.4.13 is too old and too buggy. So I've updated JFFS2 code with CVS one, and then some horrible nights patching the kernel to adapt it to new JFFS2 structures made me sick and I gave up.

I'm currently porting GP32 to Linux 2.6, just to be able to play Pentagram. You can follow the Linux development status by looking at the gp32linux project page.

Hopefully we'll be able to play these cool games very soon :)
