GP32 and RGB. . . . .

Anyone know if you can get RGB from the GP32? If any of you have ever seen the Miracle Ray project( connecting the PS1 LCD monitor to a GBA), then you know what I am after. Any webpages w/ info and such would be a great help.
 
well, you can probobly get digital rgb ;) . the gp32 uses a digital lcd instead of an anolog lcd, most portable games/computers use digital lcds. what you would need is a digital to anolog converter that would work with that type of lcd controller. which more than likely exists its just a matter of finding it. and most anolog to digital converters are quite large, i would imagine that the same would apply to an d-a converter.

there was a rumor that gp32 could do composite out from the serial port, but that hasn't been looked into too deeply. it says in cragix' review that it can be used for tv out tho...
 
Thanks for the reply, but if the GP32 can put out RGB, than there would be no need for these "converters" and such. I am sure the GBA has roughly the same screen as the GP32 and I can hook my GBA directly(with the use of a GBA Tranverter) to a ps1 LCD screen via the psx cable using R,G,B, sync and ground.
 
no, no, no i outputs(possibly) DIGITAL rgb NOT anolog that is used by 99.99999999999999% of all televisions <_< there is a HUGE difference!!!
 
Hey nerd, if you could be a little more thourogh on what your trying to explain, that would help out greatly. My project would not involve connecting the GP to a TV, but to an LCD monitor-as is what's already in the GP. Stands to reason if the GBA can do it, the GP32 should too. It's just that there hasn't been enough exploration into the GP32 as the GBA. If you have the time, please explain your point in a little more detail.
 
i assume you mean the psone lcd, well it uses an anolog signal as well. the gp32 outputs a digital signal. i'm not even sure if its an rgb digital signal. you would need to convert the DIGITAL into anolog. the digital signal has several wires for each color, each one representinf a bit (i believe), thats why it is digital not anolog. i believe that evil dragon may be able to explain the better than me.
 
Well, hard to say, as there are different possibilities to transfer digital signals...

Here is a short difference between tubes and LCDs:

Tubes create a picture line by line using a beam.
The beam actually shoots with different voltages at the fluorescent pieces at the front of the glass of the TV (as I am from Germany, I don't know the exact words in English, sorry).
The higher the voltage, the brighter the fluorescent piece glows. There are three fluorescent pieces per pixel: Red, Green and Blue (sounds familiar, eh? ;))
When all three glow with maximum power, we get a white color.
So basically, we have ONE single beam making the whole picture.

Now onto LCDs:
LCDs consists of Liquid Crystals. Each crystal glows when it gets some power.
The difference to the tube: Each crystal has to be powered seperately (for the tube we just needed ONE beam).
To realize this, you need a kind of matrix, where every single crystal can glow.
And to control this matrix, you need a controller IC which sends digital signals to the LCD.

Pretty easy to understand now:
Since LCDs have a different amount of pixels (i.e. GP32: 320x240, PC TFT: 800x600, 1024x768 or even 1280x1024) we have different matrixes which need different ICs and digital signals.

If you want to connect an LCD DIGITALLY to a device, it has to be created for the SAME controller IC.

The mentioned PSOne LCD has ANALOG RGB inputs.
How does this work?
Pretty easy: The controller IC of the LCD converts a standard analog signal into a digital signal for the LCD.

I don't know anything about the GBA/PSOne hack project, but I assume they got some analog signals out of the GBA (which is probably possible, because Nintendo also has a hardware to connect GBAs to a big screen, used for presentations).
The GP32 lacks that signal, so I'm afraid there is no possibility to connect the LCD...

I hope I cleared things a bit up... although I didn't know all the words for what I wanted to say ;)
