Ever since I got my GP2X (about a week now) I've been struggling with getting it to mount as a USB drive on my Power Mac G5. Most of the time the computer simply won't recognize it. Sometimes, rarely, it will work -- but it seems to be random, I don't know why it will mount the drive one time, then the next 8 or 10 times I try, nothing happens.

I tried it on my iBook, and it was the same story.

Do you have firmware 2.0? If not, you might try another USB cable. I've heard that some of the supplied USB cables are no good. I've had no trouble mounting mine in OS X or windows since I've upgraded to firmware 2.0.

I've never bothered mounting the GP2X on my Mac, seriously you should consider getting a card reader, it's fast and saves batteries as you don't need the GP2X running while you copy stuff over...

Yes, I want a card reader. I got one, but it turned out to be the wrong model. Like a fool I thought a "Mini SD Card Reader" was a small reader for SD cards -- but turns out it's only for reading Mini SD cards. :p

As for the USB cable. . . The strange thing is, I've never got it to connect when my GP2X is on AC power. When using alkaline batteries it usually won't connect, but once in a while it does. The last couple of days, since I started using NiMH batteries, it always connects! It must be something related to the voltage levels, I guess?

Transfers are really slow (they seem to stall a lot), but I am still planning to get a SD card reader.
