Hardwin Spenkelink a.k.a. aapje89 released a really useful tool for DosBox:
The DosBox Config Creator!

Using this tool, creating configurations for you favourite old DOS games to run on gp2x DosBox is easy :)

Download: DosBox Config Creator v0.2

BTW: Did anyone think about including Squidge's MMU Hack into DosBox...?

Good stuff that would be useful to me if I could get passed this damn black screen of death, could anyone help? trying to get jetpack to work incase you needed to know.

thanks

I had this too, I spent a few hours (!) getting to the root of it. I too kept getting a black screen, or returning to theGP2x menu!

What you do is this (all case sensitive):

1) folder in root on SD card called "dosbox" (no quotes), containing the dosbox file (it has no ending if you notice)
2) Folder in the dosbox folder for game - remember to keep it 8 characters or less (DOS) - eg I called Arcade Fruit Machine "fruitmc". path is therefore (on SD card): dosbox\fruitmc. Put all the DOS files for the game here.
3)run aapje89's fantastic program to map the keys (read his readme). Note you can change the joystick configuration in the config file. These three files MUST go into the game folder (in the example above, into dosbox\fruitmc ).

That is it. :)

I finally got DUKE NUKEM 1 shareware version working!

Here's what I found.

- I had to wait a bit for it to load up from the black screen
- used only lowercase for the directories
- noticed that lctrl & lalt wouldn't work, used rctrl & ralt instead.

I Overclocked to 266 with frameskip on 2. Pretty good speed.

Easily used every single button on the gp2x for this game. Definately going to need more buttons for dosbox, perhaps modifiers? (ie L+A=space)

Dosbox definately needs a speed boost.

The config creator is awesome guys. Fantastic.

Try running at a lower clockspeed, also it just takes some time try to let it run for 5 mins.
Do you see a small dosprompt in the left corner with C:\<nameofapphere> for some time?

if that doesn't work try this setup:
http://hardwin.kicks-ass.org/sd.zip

extract the contents of the zip to the root of your sd. (runs at 260mhz)

Nope, doesn't work on my GP2X (MKII, Firmware 2.0) (hang at black screen)

This must be a bug in the dosbox program or something, or a hardware incompatibility issue.

bizarre.

 ***WAIT***

It's some sort of memory error. I loaded up a Neo Geo game, quit and then loaded up dosbox and it WORKED!

?? thats weird, I haven't hear of anybody who had this problem, could this be the same thing some versions of the squidgesnes emu had, that you first had to run clonekeen in order to get the screen to function...

Do you have this everytime now? weird... o_O
Do you see the dosboxprompt when it doesn't work or nothing at all?

Yeah, I have to load up a NEO GEO game, quit then load dosbox everytime. If I reboot my GP2X after I quit dosbox, it won't run when I try and load it again.

When dosbox hangs, I don't see anything on the screen.

I'm having a problem with the zip file for this program, it claims it's a corrupted zip?

Is there any other way to obtain a copy of this program?

The zip file from the link in the first post opens fine for me, have you tried downloading it again? What are you using to unzip it?

I was using ALZIP. I unchecked it for opening zips, and you are right. That fixed the problem immediately.

I'm working on getting a few configs set up, so hopefully I get this all working.
