Just received my gp2x from lik-sang. Great screen, great system. Almost filled up my 1 gig SD card. (I think the pcengine emulator is great, i get to play many of the ames I grew up with!)
A quick question though. I've noticed the the joystick can be somewhat unresponsive at times, how can I make sure that the unit I did in fact receive is a mk2 model and not a unit that was flashed with the new firmware?
I also noticed that there was no protective film included in the box, nor was one applied to the unit, is this something I should be concerned about?

I look forward to porting some great linux apps as I feel right at home on this handheld. (I'm traditionally a linux desktop/server developer, should be interesting getting into the embedded/gaming area)

Thanks in advance! gp32_console

Well I think the first noticable difference to tell if it's a mk2 is that the joystick cap looks totally different than the mk1 version. I'm sure there's another way to definitly find out, but since I'm really not up as to what the big differences are, t his is all the info I can give. I'm sure others can give you more detail. Also congrats on the purchase of an amazing system and welcome to the community!

The joystick cap has a bump in the middle, fwiw...
Then it probably is an MK2 (it's like a big inversed cone with a smaller cone in the middle, right?). Another way you can tell is if the screen has a really strong contrast. If white is really WHITE, and black is really BLACK, and stuff don't look washed out, then it's an MK2. And by the way, welcome to the community, I hope you enjoy your GP2X as much as I'm enjoying mine ;)

On the back of the machine, on a MK2, you'll see GP2x-F100( B ). The joyystick takes a little getting used to, but I don't think it's bad, just different.

When i get home from work, I'll check on the model number, but form the looks of the joystick cap, I've got an mk2... thanks for the quick replies.

As for the joystick, it will definitely take so,me getting used to, but it sort of reminds me of the old joystick on the turbographix16

Bought some rechargables yesterday because of the battery life I was getting, but other than that, a great handheld. Nothing quite like it out there...

The Mk1 is different to the First Edition - the Mk1 came after with small refinements.

If you want to know if you have an Mk2 simply look at the sticker on the back. If it has the text F100 ( B ) it's an Mk2.

Sorry - beaten to it by LordFu, who also appears to have had to edit as ( B ) without spaces becomes: (B) !
