I was wondering if anyone would know where you could buy ARM920T cpu's I know that the tom tom GPS system uses a 400mhz ARM920T cpu. Wouldn't that be awesome if we could swap out the cpu and have 400 mhz cpu in our GP2X system. ;) It would require soldering but I would do it if I could find a retailer.

forget all about it!!! First off the pins are way too small to solder it by hand let alone desoldering the actual cpu and also, the cpu is integrated in the magic eyes board that's in the gp2x. Also the cpu of an embedded system is really not exchangable.
EDIT: Oh, and also the memory will need to be clocked too, to keep pace with the cpu... not possible.
EDIT2: That game engine of yours looks very interesting... do I smell some sort of a 3D game engine? What is it??? I am really curios... looks like some sort of mode7... nice background image... tell me, tell me, tell me!

well, with some luck you can get your gp2x to 300mhz, and if you utilize the 940 cleverly you should get quite a boost, it can for sure perform better than a single 400mhz arm9 then.

But it could be possible to add something extra. But how it'd be supported and connected?

There are some possibilities, all not easy thought:

- rip sdram chips and connected a FPGA to memory pads
(it'd have to simulate SDRAM and have its external memory too)
- intercept a LCD signal and add overlay(s) to it (much simpler but
limited in uses)
- connect via EXT port USB or USART. Should be easiest but with very limited bandwith. Hardly usefull for supposedly powerfull coprocessor.

EDIT: Oh, and also the memory will need to be clocked too, to keep pace with the cpu... not possible.

Multiplier for a core could be higher.

Read my sig. Try the part about the MMSP2, it is the chip we are using, all cores (5) are integrated into it.
