Gp2x Or Psp

Problem with that, Parkydr, is that while a lot of people on here know a lot about what the PSP can do, very FEW PSP users know anything about the GP2X, if they've heard about it, that is.

It's funny how people ask this sort of question in the GP2X forums, I don't see how you can expect an objective answer from an obviously biased group. I freely admit to being a GP2X fanboy ("boy" might be stretching a bit at 43) :)

Have you tried the same question on the PSP forums?
Im almost as old !!

lol

Im not bais, my comments above where based on fact, its the reaction of my kids that i find interesting..

Just briefly, and it may have already been said in the second half (but wasn't in the first) of this threat, but also bear in mind that many more recent PSP commercial games will auto-update the firmware. Which essentially means that, if you want to play the aforementioned "decent" games that the PSP is aparrently only just coming up with, you'll forfeit your homebrew playing ability even if you start out with a 1.5 firmware unit.

For emulation, and geek appeal, go with the 2x. For gaming, go with a ds.

I absolutely love the tv-out and hdd capabilities... (hdd is used in conjunction with a bob)

All I want to say is that I NEVER want to play TG16 games on the PSP again. I remember the nasty ghosting on Bonk. Made me pretty sick actually.

Fact of the matter is that no matter how good the emulators get on the PSP, they will never be able to overcome the slow lcd response. The screen is not as great as people think. I knew I would have a problem with it when I played the "Rally X" demo before Ridge Racer. I was really saddened at the ghosting.

Another problem is the d-pad (not the stick). Up, down, left, right...all ok. But diagonals....oh god. I could not pull off a diagonal move at all. I had two PSP units at the time, both could not do it. I did a whole lot of research on the subject, and while there are some people claiming they can, there were a boatload more that say they absolutely can not. Either way, I couldn't.....leaving out fighting games, some overhead shooters (Thunderforce II comes to mind) and many other titles. You CAN use the nub if the emulator supports it, but it stinks. If the damn d-pad worked the way it should I *might* have even dealt with the ghosting.

Don't get me wrong. I am NOT bashing the PSP. It is a nice machine with a good amount of power. But Sony f'ed up the joystick, f'ed up the screen, and absolutely is flinging the finger at the homebrew community. Too many f's for me.

Ohh and as my sig says....

I got one DS Lite and one GP2X..

For me.. if i want to play retro games, i'll use the GP2X.
If i wanted to play commercial games.. i'll use the DS..

PSP sucks..
Commercial games not as much as DS.
Homebrew games not as good as GP2X (take into account of the screen and the firmware upgrade frustration)

Probably enough said on this already.
Between PSP and GP2X (I have both), I would choose the GP2X without hesitation.
With your focus being emulation, you'd have to go with the GP2X. If you're a poor student, then you probably won't be able to afford new UMD games, so emulation is your best option.
I'm surprised you didn't mention MAME as one of your emulated interests - GP2X MAME is fantastic! There's no decent MAME emulation on the PSP.

Which version SNES emulator are you using on the PSP? Which is the best?

BTW - if you want to get an SD card - get something like a RiData. They are the fastest SD cards around. Sandisk are a bit overpriced for what you get (considerably slower).

Other things I don't like about the PSP.
Rechanging. If you don't use it for a while - you still have to recharge it... It's always using the batteries. Drives me nuts. Like know, powered it on. Nada!

The screen on the PSP is nice... if you like static displays. Once things get moving that's where the problem is. Don't be fooled into viewing photos or games that don't move much.

This reall is a big point as I said in my post I also have both and with 4 kids the cost of games is too high, I love the gp2x for retro stuff and the ds when i have to buy games..

If you post here you might get a bias view, if you post on PSP i think you certainly will and they are probably not hardcore gamers..and its the hardcore multisystem gamers you should be asking..

I mean for heaven sake if you follow the sales figures DS is peeing all over PSP at the momment..Sony have got it wrong.

So for the last time I have both but the GP2x is what i use more and enjoy more.

7. Gp2x is the Next Nokia N Gauge

:D

All the replies you're getting in the PSP forum are more biased than the ones we're giving.

Also:
The GP2X has quality control issues.
A was reading a review of the handheld, and it took 4 seperate devices to be used until the reviewer found a working one.
This is untrue, the MK2 GP2X is very stable.

lol. i was looking at that forum and think that people involved in the GP2X are probably a lot smarter. Threads such as "I spilt pop on my PSP" prove that PSP users are probably a little slow

This movie here gives you a good impression what you can do with a gp2x:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_NrTS_ut74&search=gp2x

And also there are som other movies there, most of them showing psx games getting played on the gp2x. But I think the upper one gives you a good impression of the gp2x.

This guy rocks:

Sorry. I don't speak retardese. Can you get someone to translate into meaningful English before you post, please? You should offer your posting style to hospital operating theatres as a highly-effective alternative to unconsciousness-inducing medications.

I don't know what makes you such a worthless poster, but it really works! You wouldn't know Up from Down if you had three guesses. Anyway, who was talking to you or even taking you under consideration? As Robert Wilensky said: "We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the Internet, we know this is not true."

You have that certain nothing. Truly, you are about as interesting as watching a slug move slowly across a large rock. I bet you thought it was just coincidence that your parents had the same surnames before they married? Maybe you wouldn't be such a Jerk-In-The-Box if you weren't so stupid that even single-celled organisms out score you in IQ tests; if your weren't so fat that you make sumo wrestlers look anorexic, or if you didn't have a face that people shove in dough to make monster cookies. Nah, of course you would.

In future, wake up the dozy peglegged hamster operating that wheel-powered brain of yours before you start typing.

I think if you listen to the people in this thread, you will understand that they are trying to tell you that if you go with the PSP then you cannot have homebrew and emulation plus commercial games at the same time without the hassel of the filmware issue. If you want commercial games then you will have to buy a unit just for that and then buy one (old filmware) for the emulation homebrew scene. If you don't do that, then you will be stuck messing with the flimware issue every time you buy a new commercial game.
I really don't think there is any biasness in this thread. I think the people are being very honest here. You do have to remember that we are retro gamers.
I only own the GP32 at the moment, but I am going to order my GP2X this next week. I currently play my GP32 more than any of my other hand held units. A total of eight units. I love the homebrew emulation scene. :D

The responses were good and balanced, except for thekon's immature (IMO) flaming of the poster. That was completely out of the line/unnecessary/embarrassing.
