Problem With Rechargeables

Hi,
Searched round for a while and haven't found an issue exactly the same as mine so just wondered if anyone else had experienced this...
I got my gp2x today with some 2600mAh Ansmann batteries and a charger from gp2x.co.uk. I stuck my batteries on charge straight away and put some standard AAs in gp2x. These worked for about 20mins as expected and during this time the gp2x worked well. 12 hours of charging later my Ansmanns were ready - so I stuck them in and switched on the power - the green power LED comes on but nothing else happens. I tried cycling the power a few times and still nothing. So I tried some other normal AAs I had and these worked fine - booted ok. I then stuck the ansmanns back in and this time they worked. I went to the battery meter screen and it said FULL so I thought all was OK. But next time I switch on - again only a green light. I wait for ages but nothing happens so I cycle the power a few times. It seems I can only get the unit to start up once in about 30 tries.
I tried the Ansmanns in my remote control and they work.
Any ideas?

Thanks for reading!

you may try chargeing again, rechargeables only reach thair full capacity after multiple charges.

See if you can find some other batteries to try in it, if they work, it's your batteries. If not, it's the unit. Also make sure that the batteries arn't loose at all in the back, sometimes the metal prong that holds them in can push inwards and it doesn't quite make a connection.

Sounds like a bad power circuit. It's failing on the regular, and only working that one in 30 times. A similar thing happened to my old unit.

Thanks for all your replies. I think its most likely duff batteries. If they didnt charge to full capacity the first time it would probably just work and then die after a short while, wheras instead they were working sporadically...although it is not at all now. I tried charging them again anyway but still nothing :(
Since normall AAs work it seems like its my rechargeables. Its annoying because they are 4 brand new rechargeable AAs I bought from gp2x.co.uk and neither set work in the gp2x. Both were charged fully before use.
I don't think it's a lose connection problem - they fit very snugly and the green power LED comes on anyway. Actually looking closer I can just about see some horizontal lines on screen.

Thanks again for all the replies.

EDIT: Sorry for wasting everyone's time but my gp2x appears to switch on every time now after I left it for a bit. Still worries me though ... I tried for ages to get it to boot before and couldn't ... and I don't think I've changed anything. I would like to know what was the problem in case it happens again. Off to play quake now - so cool on gp2x.

REALLY Sorry to raise this from the dead again but I'm going crazy trying to get my gp2x to work (losing hair) and I've been searching the forum for days with no inspiration! When I posted last it was working again but after the batteries ran out and I recharged them I can't get it to turn on anymore :(

========

In case I didn't explain very well last time , a brief recap...

As you know I couldn't get my brand new gp2x to power on with Ansmann 2600mAh rechargeables. The fact that the green light comes on suggests to me it's not a loose battery problem.
After several power cycles I did get it to turn on and then I didn't have any problems whilst it remained switched on. The battery meter even said full. But once I'd turned the unit off I couldn't get it to come back on again. I tried my other set of Ansmann rechargeables but still the same. Every 15 minutes or so I tried to turn it on again and on very rare ocassions it would turn on properly.
Frustrated, I recharged my batteries again. After that it was still the same but eventually I did get it to turn on again.
This time I played on it for a couple of hours with no problems and after that even after switching it off I could get it to come back on again much more often. It seemed to be working normally now and did until the batteries ran out.
So then I recharged my batteries again for 12 hours. When they were done I put them back in my gp2x but now I can't get the unit to turn on at all ever.
I have tried the rechargeables in other devices such as my gameboy and they work fine. Which suggests the rechargeables are ok. And AA batteries have worked every time in the gp2x which suggest the power circuit is ok. This is why this problem is so confusing. And its very frustrating hardly ever being able to play on my gp2x because its a great system and when it works I love it.

Do you think I should send it all back for a replacement?

I know that you bought those aansmans, but why not try some other rechargables before sending it back for a replacement, you're probably going to need an extra set of rechargables eventually if you get a new unit or not

Try a reputable rechargable brand, like Energizer or Duracell. I use both of these brands and never have problems. I'd bet your problem is those assmans :)

Thanks for your help guys, trying some different rechargeables is probably a good idea. It's probably worth getting a faster charger too - I don't like waiting 12 hours!
gp2x.co.uk have offered to take it all back for testing but I think I'll do some testing of my own first because since the problem is quite sporadic it'll probably work when it gets to them - and I'll have to pay all the postage.

Cheers
