When I boot up Duke Nukem 3D on the GP2X it comes up with a black screen.

In the folder "duke2x" there is:

/confiles/defs.con
/confiles/readme.txt
/confiles/user.con
/confiles/game.con
duke3d.cfg
duke3d.gpe
DUKE3D.grp
readme.txt

Is that correct or should I rename DUKE3D.grp to duke3d.grp ?

Cheers.

that looks right to me, capitalization doesn't matter.

It usually takes around 6-10 seconds for something to come up when I load the game. This sounds stupid, but are you waiting? A few screens will show before the menu, so just press start to get to the menu. In game, start+select gets to the menu which allows you to save. Use start to choose an option and select goes back, I think (It might be the other way around)

It's actually my friend who is doing this since he got his GP2X today, and since i dont have one I cant test it out. Hmm...

read the readme at theres a obvious error in your file placement.

It'd be good if you could just tell me what it is because I dont have the files on me (my friend's GP2X).

Installation
------------

Place duke3d.gpe anywhere. Additional files needed from either a shareware or retail version of Duke3D are duke3d.cfg and duke3d.grp.
These files should be in the same folder as duke3d.gpe If you are using the Atomic Edition then you will also need the files defs.con,
game.con and user.con from the CD. If you are using version 1.3 then use the .con files included in this zip.
Using any other version of the .con files with 1.3 will almost certainly cause strange problems,
as will using the included .con files with the Atomic Edition. .con files should also be in the same folder as duke3d.gpe

Everything seems to be in order...

So can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

How about ".con files should be in the same folder as duke3d.gpe"? lol

The same thing happened to me: it wasn't until I got a good duke3d.cfg from somewhere that it started working for me.

Download mine from here and overwrite yours with it. Let me know if that gets it sorted or not.

No they shouldn't. I've got mine in a confiles directory also, not where the .gpe is.

Wierd! I just deleted my confiles directory and ran duke nukem with no problems: it is the atomic edition and I have no .con files anywhere else so it must be reading from the.grp file

So the question is: why in the readme does the author say we have to mess with the con files?

If the executable can't find the .con files on the sd then it will extract the version it finds in the .grp. Sometimes this makes things not quite work as expected (mainly if it's 1.3 that's being used), so to cut down on the number of people complaining that the game doesn't work I just told everyone they also needed the .con files.

hmm I just repeated what was in the readme... so maybe the author should look into changing the readme so it won't confuse people... and no I am not a tard :D

Sorry to gravedig, but i'm having issues. I've tried everything. Put the confiles in, took the confiles away. I'm using the atomic edition, btw.

I get to the main menu, and as soon as i select something, the menu dissapears and all i can see is the background behind it. I can still hear the music playing though.

Any thoughts?

Can some one help run Duke3D. I just bought the GP2X MK2 and tried with the Duke3D from the CD they sent. I get the black screen. On the readme it mentions have the .grp and .cfg files in the same dir as .gpe .

I got the .cfg from the wiki site. But .grp I never found any place to get that file. Can some one help me get the correct .grp file so I run and show my kids that GP2X indeed rocks.

you need a original copy of duke nukem 3d, the files are on the disc and in the folder you installed it to.
