very weird.... I copied it on... changed it to english & ran it... 15 seconds later the screen blanked.... I moved the stick... it came back on & then went off 15 seconds l8r.. cool! I then ran an emulator & waited for it to go off... didn't go off. So I reset the GP2X & ran the util again... it didn't blank.

I deleted it from my SD card & then copied it back across & ran it... it didn't blank. It says v0.5 .... strange stuff!

It might also be a good idea for the energysaver screen to blank so it can be tested .. or maybe it should do that ...

keep it up... I'm sure you can fix it :)

What Emulator did you test it with?

Sqidgeynes, drMDX & mamex .. I also tried by deleting the folder & copying it back across as I did the first time but it didn't work.

It is difficult for me to debug without having physical access to a MK2 model.

As far as i understand, it works ok from the GP2X menu, but not from other programs. Am i right?

Let's say that you set it to 15 seconds. When in GP2X menu, after 15 seconds of inactivity, the LCD turns off until you press a button.

But this does not happen from any other program you try. You can wait for more than 15 seconds without pressing any button and it does not turn off the LCD.

It did work from the menu, the first time I tried with 0.5 but when I tried the emus it stopped. It then stopped working from the main menu all together. I copied 0.5 back on to see if it would work again, & it wouldn't. Weird eh.

I also tried on batteries only & on mains power... no difference.

We can try to debug "remotely". Please download http://80.35.206.140/testsetbl.zip

- Decompress and copy the files setbl and testbl.gpu to EnergySaver folder in SD card
- Launch testbl.gpu from Utility menu on GP2X
- This should enable energy saver in background with log file. Check that it works on gp2x main menu after 15 seconds of inactivity.
- Launch any other program
- Wait from the program for 30 seconds or more.
- Exit the program
- Wait again on gp2x main menu to check that it is working yet.

A new file named setbl.log should have been created in Energy Saver folder

Please post the contents of that file.

Thank you again for your help.

I copied the files across & ran the test.... I waited 1 minute & no sleep mode. I checked the log file & it is 0 bytes in size & is empty. :(

:(

We will have to wait then. When i get access back to my GP2X i will make some more tests and prepare a better test logger program. I will post here when it is ready and we will see if we can find something.

I loaded it on & it sleeps...I started DrMDx & it went to sleep.....

I also tried mamex ... & it works...

looking good now :) :) I'll keep testing it for the new few days...but looks like you got it fixed..

good work!

I'll just need to install it as an autorun & we are done :)

I've only just got my gp2x so I haven't had a chance to try anything out yet but looking at the documentation I noticed there are some clock control registers.

They are:

COMCLKENREG - 0xC0000908
VGCLKENREG - 0xC000090A
ASCLKENREG - 0xC00090C

According to the documentation (from what I can make out, it isn't very clear) they allow you to enable or disable the clock input on different parts of the MP2520F's core. This would in effect turn off different parts of the chip and should reduce the power consumption. i.e. VGCLKENREG controls the clock input to various parts of the hardware video decoder, if you are not decoding any video then writing 0x1F to that address would in effect turn of the video decoder and reduce power consumption (in theory).

I've done a google search and I can't find anyone who's tried this before. Have you tried playing around with the above registers and do they work?

I will look into it.
Anyway, as the source code is included, you can make your own tests if you want to (in the file setbl/setbl.c, you should add any new energy saving call to the last function: int bajoconsumo(unsigned velocidad).

When I get round to installing the toolchain (I only got my GP2X on Thursday) I'll give it a try. Although as I don't have a multimeter I'm not sure how well I'll be able to test it.

Mine doesn't work either.
I have standard old version GP2X, firmware 2.0

I launch the energysaver, don't change into English (it's simple enough, I can read a bit of Spanish), turn it ON, set the timeout on 25 secs, and then bail out with Start, then I go to USB connection, connect to PC and then:
1) LCD doesnt switch off no matter how long I wait
2) Any button crashes the GP2X

P.S. Can I already use tester software? Or it's better to wait?

If it is an MK2, please use the latest test version http://80.35.206.140/EnergySaver05test3.zip or it won't work.
If no more bugs are reported with this version, i will release it as final after the weekend

By default, energy saver will never activate when usb connection is on. Please see the readme for more details

done some more testing & it seems all is ok... I haven't had time to get it working via autorun but I'll try it tomorrow.

thanks again.

Hi Kounch .... I tried to get it to autorun by copying the setlb & the autorun.gpu into the root of my SD card. When I switched on instead of the menu it goes to a black screen.. If I move the stick ot comes to life. If I then leave it for 15 seconds (which is what I set it to) it doesn't sleep. If I then run the app from my EnergySaver folder it shows ON/15 Seconds/20Mhz. If I press start it reboot, screen goes black, I move the stick it comes back on... but again it doesn't sleep.

I used the autorun.gpu from 0.4 & also tried using the autorun.gpu file from the last page in this forum ...

so it looks like it it running ... but doesn't sleep.

If I take it off autorun & just run from the folder it works fine.... I'm using the setlb from 0.5

The latest version of setbl has different parameters, so old autorun.gpu will not work. These are the content of the sample autorun.gpu that will ship with latest version
