Every once in a while when I try to start my GP2X, the screen flashes briefly, then goes blank (black). Turning it back off and on again yields the same black screen. Also, hooking it up to a power source, changing batteries and removing the SD card also has no impact on the problem. However, if I leave the machine be for 5-30 minutes, it will work fine again.

Any idea what the problem is? I had the same problem with both firmwares 1.4.0 and now 2.0.0, and the hardware is normal edition (newer than first edition but older than mk2)

I had that problem a while ago...I think what may be a good idea is to back-up and reformat your sd card to a fat32. it also might depend on what kind of sd card it is. It might be damaged or slightly incompatible.

Try turning the unit on without the sd card inserted and see if that works.

but I still think re-formatting the sd card would be a good idea.

Like I said in my opening post, I've tried every hardware permutation possible (AC adapter + batteries + SD card, AC adapter + batteries + no SD card, no AC adapter + batteries + SD card, no AC adapter + batteries + no SD card etc...), but no help. Also, I formatted my SD card a good few weeks ago like instructed in the wiki somewhere, and have witnessed the problem several times since then.

Don't know what to tell you then....the only other thing then would be to send in your gp2x for a replacement....as I, and many others don't have that problem. I witnessed it in the begining when I first got mine, my unit would just turn on and freeze at the bootup screen. I would have to turn it off and then back on, and even sometimes I would have to re-insert the sd card, and then it would work. but as the others have said, it must be your unit....depends how much it bothers you, if sending it back is worth the bother.

Update: I posted a question about my problem on the gp2x.com site, but received no reply from the people there. I also explained my problem to the Lik Sang staff, and they asked me to send it back to be replaced.
