I do not have a compatable sd card and i was wondering if anyone had an alternate updater they were working on so i can finally upgrade from 1.4.

you should take a look at the last pages in the "firmware upgrade compatible cards and faq" sticky and try the sd-card utility by gadget (the link is somewhere on the above mentioned pages). be sure to download the latest one.

other than that, i don't think anyone is working on a firmware-updater, but proof me wrong...

Well, to be more precise, I have corrupted file system on my GP2X, (U-boot and kernel are fine). A bigger problem is that I have a broken serial adapter which could be fixed relatively simply and used to unbrick my gp2x... but I've chosen to reinvent the wheel and make myself a breakout box. It's nearly complete, I expect to have my GP2X up and running within a week. And when it is fixed, I will certainly be making a firmware 2.0 updater.

I have also ordered a new GP2X, which should really have been here by now... ah well, all good things take time :)

So glad to hear you'll be working on a new updater Robster. I have a supposedly "compatible" card that relentlessly fails at updating, so I appreciate your work. :)

If you want an alternative there is a Jtag program, I think it is in a foreign language forum though, I couldn't download it without signing up.

I would have built and tried it out, but I had to sell my GP2X for financial reasons.

The cable is a simple <$20 affair to make, and the software just uploads the "Uboot 2.0" flasher over Jtag and executes it.

Then with "uboot 2.0" many more cards *should* work to update the filesystem to 2.0.

If anyone knows about this, an english guide with pictures would be nice, also the tools on the archive.

Put it in the Wiki for people to use, it might be nice for those of us with the desire to "unbrick" ourselves whenever we feel like, the distributors are busy enough without fixing stuff we could fix ourselves for less money and hassle.

Anyobody with a link to this info could put it in below :).
