I remember how people here complain about analog joysticks and how they suck for emulation. Why is this? When I play with my gamecube controller using the gba player I could control fine with the analog joystick. That is sort of like emulation (though it is natively done i think). So I don't know why its so bad.

Also, didnt there used to be a "new topics" thing for the front page on gp32x with some listings of the forums? What happened to that? Was it evil in some way?

Is not bad, but what I hate are diagonals.
All games in which to jump you must press up are impossible to play.
I try Joytest program: there are 3 diagonals points for every diagonals.
Is possible via software to improve UP DOWN RIGHT LEFT to have 3 points everyone and have only a point for every diagonals ?

The GP2x stick isn't really analog is it? I thought it was just a shady stick connected to an 8 way pad.

Technically the GP2x's stick is 16 way digital controller. It has 8 discrete "switches" and in effect can give 16 possible directions. It's main problem is that those direction are uneven with very strong diagonal bias. The second issue is that it mechanically can move just freely like an analog joystick. It's really impossible to feel when you hit diagonal with it.

OIC.

Does it even click or make a sound when you hit one of the 8 switches?

No because it doesn't have really microswitches or such. Search for DaveB posts about it or my own venture about it (here).
The only "clicklike" behavior is only for center push.
