Well ftping files to test is good. So is telnet, saves plugging in the serial...

Dunno about the gph firmware, but I've had my gp2x doing nfs mounts of my linux box for a while. Its quite handy to not even have to copy files to test them :)

USB networking built-in: Samba and full-speed telnet across USB! That says it all, I think!

I found a Cygwin binary of GDB/insight compiled for ARM targets at http://www.macraigor.com/full_gnu.htm, and it works. That is going to save me so much hassle...

I notice this site includes gcc and binutils as well as gdb. Have you tried
to use them as a native toolchain on the Gp2x?

the builtin samba server is useful for copying files to the gp2x's nand and sd without the hassle of swapping sd cards and running scripts

telnet is useful for having multiple sessions open at once (program crashes in one, just open another and kill it :)

and then of course, with a little extra, you can even mount your windows shares as directories on your gp2x, so you don't even have to copy your latest executable across to be able to test it.

crusty: If your interested in GDB, there's a version for the gp2x on the file archive (archive.gp32x.de)

Not yet. It's on my list, but before that I want to try setting up a different toolchain on the PC side, to try compiling and linking against earlier versions of the libraries so that I can use the shared libraries that are already on the GP2X system.

This was one of the main reasons I compiled screen for the gp2x, as it lets you do the same over a serial line.

Best thing about 2.0 is you can mount a shared directory on your PC to a directory on your GP2X, removing the need to write to the GP2X at all.

And thanks also for your build of GDB, it was a huge help when I started learning to code for the GP2X!
