Having Trouble With Outcast

Dear all,

I've installed OutcaST on the GP2X and created an "atari-st" folder within my roms folder on the SD card, as instructed in the OutcaST readme.

The OutcaST emu boots and unpacks, then displays a list of roms:

a_028.st
a_097.st
a_133.st

These are all Automation menu disks acquired from the Atari ST Shrine FTP site.

When selecting a ROM, the emu reports "No TOS.ROM file found". I've tried placing the ROMs into drive A, drive B and both drives but get the same error message. Are .ST files not the correct ones to be using? What is the TOS.ROM file referred to and where does it need to be located?

Many thanks for any forthcoming help.

TOS.ROM is the operating system ROM, it's like MS-DOS for the Atari, and is required to run anything.

Thanks for that.

TOS.ROM doesn't seem to be included with my download of OutcaST: any idea where I could acquire it? Also, once I have TOS.ROM, where does it need to sit? On the root of the SD, in the OutcaST folder or in the roms/atari-st folder?

Many thanks again.

R-ingTFM seems to be a lost art nowadays ;)

TOS.ROM goes into the roms/atari-st directory. I don't think it's strictly legal for us to publicly tell you where to get it, but you should be able to *cough*Google*cough* find it pretty easily. Version 1.02 is the best for games compatibility.

Why RTFM when there are so many helpful people here to give a concise answer? ;)

I found what I needed by *cough* Googling *cough*: thank you very much.

Make sure its just called TOS.ROM aswell. Re-name if neccessary.

Case closed :)

I'm now playing Xenon and Xenon 2 like a pro! :D

Thank you!
