Hi folks,

I'm generally a lurker here but I just wanted to say that I bought an aData 4gb SD (150x...or so the package says) card from ebay (.co.uk) and it seems to work fine. I ran DrDM and played sonic for a quick check. I haven't tried filling it to capacity or anything but I just thought I'd let ye know. Tell me if theres anything I can do to test a little more thoroughly.

Quick Edit: While I'm hear and people are reading, I'd like to send a quick thanks to the coders at work on the various ports/emulators - I'm having way more fun with this than I ever did with my PSP thanks to you.

Dump a huge directory of files on there > 2Gb and then try adding some new emulators and see if they load and run. I suspect it may fail to see them. Good news if it doesn't.

p.s. How much was the card?

Ok, dumped the first series of "My Name Is Earl" (2.04Gb - pure class btw) on the card in a Movies folder. This is along with about 600 megs worth of emulators/roms and games. (for a total of 2.6Gb - just in case there was any ambiguity there) It works fine when I play Ghouls n' Ghosts and I watched the first 5 seconds of episode 3.

The card cost 120 GBP including shipping btw...

This is cool btw, loads of space for music, full mameset and a few episodes of whatever...I was half thinking of getting a flash based mp3 player - no need now.

Another Quick Edit: Firmware 1.20 atm (I'll upgrade soon, I don't expect it to be any different)

DISCLAIMER: My card works, I sincerely hope your does too - but I'm not writing the rules.

Ahh, the logic of your post has just occurred to me. So in deference I played the last few episodes. They work. If the device can reference the memory at these addresses then emulators shouldn't be an issue either. I'll go add some more mame roms and attempt to play them however.

EDIT: Added the full Mameset (0.34) so I have about 400 megs left on the card. The roms that were newly added (there were only a few initially) work fine. I tested 4 of them. I haven't added any new emu's but I really doubt that will be an issue. Besides, if it is a problem, format your card and install them before you copy the roms over.

heh, generally I wouldn't but I got the GP2X as a present so the sum total cost of my 4gb arcade machine/mp3 player/pmp was £120. Not too shabby. At least thats how I justify it to myself...

(Even at that though, including the cost of the unit its still exceptionally cheap for the capability you're getting. And its utility will only increase with time.)

why worry about using u-boot to update firmware (other than for recovery purposes, in which case you could just get a cheap 64 meg card or something)? I think there's a linux app out now to do it...

hmm...
I read it doesn't support smaller than 64mb since the 1.1.0 firmware.
But I could have read wrong, or maybe it's fixed again with the 1.2.0 firware. Don't know.

I don't even have a GP2X or GP32 ... I'm just some sort of forum-stalker :)
But I will buy a gp2x soon... soooooon... *drool*

Reinout,

Reinout,

The Uboot doesn't support >64mb cards, the problem was the Uboot started updating, then halfway through decided it didn't like the 64mb cards and you were screwed.

At least that is how I understood it, if anyone knows better they can tell me off :D .

Uboot and Linux each have their own SD driver, that is half the problem, because our Uboot is hacked to disable the SD booting, and ENABLE the crap firmware updater on autopilot. Idiots.

Lurkers also kickass in starcraft.

Anyway. I was going to kill myself and get that exact card, but I could not find it for under $250, and sellers wouldn't budge on it, even though the submit best offer option was on all of them. Anyway, I got the 2gb and it holds more then enough for me. But ill probably get the 4gig when it comes down in price.
